Sanyo's PLV-Z5 LCD projector isn't brand new but its price is too good to ignore!
Other specs are very promising, as a high brightness rating of 1,100 ANSI Lumens rubs shoulders with a surprisingly hefty 10,000:1 contrast ratio. This latter figure in particular would again have looked like state-of-the-art stuff at the time of the...

The fifth generation of Sanyo's impressive home collection
Clear picture performance
Black levels aren't very good ; Design doesn't impress
A good performer when it's really, really dark

The PLV-Z5 has its benefits, but can't quite match the all-round ability of the best in its class
Versatile positioning ; simple set-up ; strong colours ; decent detail
Struggles to stay on top of fast movement ; depth of field could be better

Don't be put off by the cheap and nasty looks – this HD-ready Sanyo projector may well be the company's best projector yet. Packed to the rafters with imaging tech and connections, the deal clincher is you can get your mitts on it for less than half...

It doesn't look much of a bargain, though. Its boring rectangular shape, uninspiring colour scheme and plasticky finish do little to explain why this projector should once have cost over ?1,500.
It runs quietly, produces believable colours, and pictures are extremely clean and 'pure
Hard to convincingly balance brightness and contrast

When it comes to watching high definition, the bigger the screen you watch it on, the more impressive it looks. That's precisely why we love HD Ready projectors so much - especially when they're as affordable as the £1,645 Sanyo PLV-Z5.
Easy to use and simple to set up, Has an array of features making it quite customisable
Looks plasticy and cheap, Only does 720p, not 1080p
An average entry-level projector. Not shabby, new-comers will get a lot out of it

Back in 2005 we reviewed the Sanyo [[prodid:177]], an excellent LCD projector with very few flaws. In 2006, the [[prodid:1420]] didn't quite live up t...
Excellent image quality, quiet operation, wide array of ports, lens shifting, large maximum image size, extensive calibration options
Some banding in the PC mode resolution tests
If you're in the market for a top-notch home theatre projector, you can't go wrong with the Sanyo PLV-Z5.
Expert review by : Clint DeBoer (audioholics.com)
The Sanyo PLV-Z5 makes a few improvements on the Z4 platform and keeps itself at the top of a very hot list of 720p projectors that are guaranteed to make any home theater enthusiast almost certain
Very detailed image with reduced screen door effect ; Excellent calibration out of the box ; Quiet cooling system ; 3000 hour bulb life (max) ; Excellent LCD panel adjustment and maintenance options
No 12VDC trigger ; Only a minor upgrade from the PLV-Z4

Sanyo's new 720p hi-def home theatre projector is one of the rare gems with dual HDMI and a cool motorised lens shutter. Best of all, it's going for a hard-to-resist AU$3,299 pricing.
Outlook The PLV-Z5 is going for a light AU$3,299 price tag. In terms of value, you will be hardpressed sourcing for a better deal to match this feature-packed Japanese product. There is no better time to upgrade your 480p beamer with such...
