Cambridge CXA80 review

Impressive muscle, but the CXA80 doesn't quite woo us quite the way we wanted...

Excellent clarity and rich detail ; Powerful sound ; Weighty, muscular and solid presentation ; Sleek design and superb build

Could be more agile and subtle with dynamics ; Not as expressive as rivals

It’s not the resounding success we’d expected it to be, but the Cambridge CXA80 is still a powerful, muscular beast of an amplifier

Precision sound!

This amp is very flexible, easy to set up Bluetooth, full of connections and by God it makes an amazing sound! No distortion at all (if you want to irritate your neighbours!) and absolutely perfect recreation of whatever sounds you ask it to. I...

Amazing

An exceptional amplifier. Whatfi have it wrong in this isolated instance. This a very different amp to the cxa60 and should not be compared simply as a higher powered version of it. It is beautifully made, has plenty of power and really does chuck out...

Good solid sound, lots of connect options

Easy to set up and easy to use. Plenty of depth and draws out that bit extra detail from my old vinyl. Some function buttons are dual purpose so worthwhile reading instructions. Remote user friendly. Need dongle for bluetooth! Overall very good value...

Superb Sound and Features

If like me you are looking to upgrade from the budget integrated that sits in the 150-250 pounds class then I can recommend this amplifier. The amp is designed as a dual mono amp - left and right channels are kept totally separate and you can hear it...

dual mono build , high quality dac , balanced xlr input

Excellent amp to put at the centre of everything

The CXA80 was not as heavily praised by What HiFi magazine as the cheaper CXA60. Presumably this was on the basis of the price differential and the additional features the CXA80 offered over the CXA60 not being worthy of the step up in price. The...

quality build , multiple connections , dac , independent transformer taps per channel , xlr connectivity

form factor is quite large

Great sound in vinyl, MP3 and radio

I initially wanted to go for the Cambridge amplifier in the top range (I can't remember the code), but it was too expensive (like £1,400). So I went one down a price in the same category. Anyway, am very pleased with the CXA80. The sound is great, you...

Dont see what the fuss is about

So, these get good WHF reviews, but on listening with some Dalis I wasnt blown away. They dont provide a realistic sound, and are too bright. The Arcam was soo much better. On the Arcam you heard the instruments, the notes played, the compositon of the...

nothing at this price

A great amplifier for streaming from an iPhone/ iPad

I purchased this amp after several weeks of research to establish which manufacturer sold the most appropriate model to drive my " old " Celestion A2 speakers, and I wanted to stream music on my iPad or iPhone through an AppleTV unit. I settled on the...

excellent musical rendition , easy to set up with older speakers , looks the part

info book should be in the box and on line , a small led on the volumeknob would help , expensive
