Virgin Mobile Lobster 700TV Mobile Phone

The Lobster lets you watch real TV and listen to DAB radio on the move but Sandra isn't totally convinced.

What irritates me most in terms of technical specifications though, is the memory expansion system. The press information Virgin Mobile distributed with my review handset did not even mention memory at all – perhaps they think it is something device...

Lobster 700TV review

The smallest TV on sale or a radio with pictures?

Very easy to use

Sound and picture quality hit and miss

Those looking specifically for a 'TV phone' may be disappointed but other features such as DAB are a real plus

Virgin Lobster 700 TV mobile phone

Although you have been able to watch TV on your mobile for over a year now via your mobile phone network, the Virgin Mobile's Lobster 700 TV mobile phone, or Tellyphone if you come from a marketing department, is the first handset in the UK to offer...

TV on the go, no data costs, easy to access

Large, need a good signal, have to have headphones in to work as aerial

As a concept, we love TV on your mobile to kill 5 minutes waiting for a train or Mrs Pocket-lint to get ready, and like garlic bread, as Peter Kay would say, "It’s the future". However, for now in September 2006, the Lobster 700 TV is a disappointment.

Virgin Lobster 700TV review

The Lobster is the first phone in the UK that allows you tune in to live TV channels. But is it any more watchable than 3G's video content?

The TV-over-DAB trick shows great promise, but this isn’t the phone to deliver it. Early adopters should have a look, but everyone else should stick to watching telly on a PMP or at home

Virgin Mobile Lobster 700TV Review

The Virgin Lobster 700TV is the first Windows Mobile device from Virgin UK and is probably one of the first Windows Smartphones aimed at the "youth" and "fun" market rather than the "Business" and "Executive" market. The emphasis here is not on work...

The Virgin Lobster 700TV is the first of it’s kind – a phone that not only receives digital radio but digital TV too. Deep inside it’s a Windows Mobile Smartphone with all the latest bits thrown in. Everything, including MSN, is included and we’re glad...

Lobster 700TV

Fifty-inch plasma TVs are a common sight these days, but fashion is towards the tiny with this, the first TV phone to get its pictures from the digital radio network. The service it displays, BT Movio, only started broadcasting in October

Very easy to use

Sound and picture quality hit and miss

Virgin Lobster 700

There are not many things left that a mobile phone cannot do however this is the first I know that you can watch live TV on, I mean live and not a link via who knows where.

It is 11x6x2cm and weights only 150grams. Apart from a slight bulge on the right side it looks like a lot of other mobile phones. The screen is 4.5x3.5cm with a single button on that bulge on the right saying TV on the button. Below the screen there...

Virgin Mobile Lobster 700TV

Portable TVs are evolving and moving into the digital age, not least with the help of 3G data streaming to push programming to mobile phones.

The Virgin Lobster 700TV is a novel idea which will appeal to some. But the quality of the TV broadcasts just aren't quite good enough. As a phone the Lobster 700TV is comparable to many other Windows Mobile 5 devices, but it doesn't really stand out...

Virgin Mobile - Lobster 700TV

There are already plenty of TV-like services for mobiles, delivering various clips and made-for-mobile type materials. But the Lobster 700TV, exclusive to Virgin Mobile, is something different. It is a mobile on which you can watch ...

The Lobster 700TV works, and it works pretty well. But its TV channel range is limited, it is large and heavy and the battery life is something of a let-down. We aren't sure we are quite ready yet to give up our neat, small, pocket-friendly phone just...
