HTC Desire 626 review

Solidly mid-range specs, disappointingly budget performance

The HTC Desire 626 ticks all the right boxes on paper, but it can't back them up in practice. It's a solid phone, but it's unexceptional in almost every area, and can be bettered without spending any more cash.

HTC Desire 626 review

HTC's Sense 7 interface is wonderfully flexible, but the Desire 626's mediocre camera and lacklustre performance just don't do it justice

Taken together with its lacklustre performance, the Desire 626 just doesn't do quite enough to rise above the rest of its mid-range competition. At £250 SIM-free, the £225 Sony Xperia M4 Aqua beats it hands down on almost every front, and even paying...

HTC Desire 626 review

Can HTC match the mighty Moto G?

Cute two-tone look ; Fairly good screen ; Decent value

Mediocre battery life ; Disappointing camera ; Slightly suspect build ; Non-BoomSound speakers

A selection box of hits and misses, resulting in a middle-weight contender at best.

HTC Desire 626 review

We review the HTC Desire 626 - a mid-range device that isn't too big a jump from its predecessor

Sleek design HTC Sense 7 UI

Sluggish processor Inadequate camera Dark screen

The HTC Desire 626 isn’t the worst mid-range device we’ve reviewed, but it equally isn’t the best either. In fact, the majority of sub-£250 devices eclipse it, including the Moto G, which is probably the best all-rounder at this price level. The camera...

HTC Desire 626

While the Desire 626 is a solid all round mid-range smartphone from HTC, it gets overwhelmed when compared to the mounting competition from other manufacturers.

Solid display; Good processor performance

Design too simple; Mixed performance from camera

While the tone of this review might seem negative, the HTC Desire 626 is by no means a poorly made device. It merely suffers from reaching South Africa after a number of higher specced mid-range devices did, and as such fails to leave a lasting...

HTC Desire 626 review

HTC's Desire range is all about budget bang for buck, and it's aiming for that sweet spot with the latest model in the range, the Desire 626. Sporting a slick, clean design, a 5-inch display and a 13-megapixel camera, the Desire 620 sequel sounds good...

There's no question that HTC knows how to design a good phone, with the flagship One M9 still one of the best looking handsets we've seen for a while, and that design ethos trickles down to the Desire range too. While the Desire 626 is touted as budget...

You'll find the Desire 626 armed with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked in at 1.2Ghz with 2GB of RAM, which gives it just about enough gusto to get through your usual apps, but we did notice some lag and stutter while swiping...

The HTC Desire 626 is a decent budget phone with a brilliant camera that should suit everyone, but it feels rather generic, and its battery life isn't ideal. When faced with stiff competition from the brand new Moto G, it just doesn't do enough to...

HTC Desire 626 review: Would you pay Rs 12,499 for Android 4.4.4? - Tech2

HTC Desire 626 is a dual-SIM device that retails for more than it's worth and only offers Android 4.4.4 and a shoddy battery

Please don’t buy this phone. It retails for anywhere between Rs 11,000 and 14,999 and at either price, it’s a waste of money. Android 4.4.4 and battery life issues notwithstanding, there simply are better phones available at the same price and there’s...

HTC Desire 626 (Verizon Wireless)

The HTC Desire 626 is an affordable, attractive Android phone for Verizon that's held back by poor battery life and slow performance.

Affordable. Attractive design. Decent camera. Expandable storage. Loud speaker.

Slow performance. Short battery life. Lots of bloatware.

Software and Conclusions The Desire 626 runs Google Android 5.1 Lollipop , and according to HTC's update tracker , there is no Android 6.0 Marshmallow update scheduled. HTC's Sense 7.0 skin makes a number of changes to Android—app icons, the...

HTC Desire 626 review

HTC's latest budget handset is like too many modern phones: good looking, but blown away by the competition.

Once again, HTC designed a good looking phone, but failed to power it with the right stuff. The display and battery are good enough, but the processor and camera are well behind its competitors.

HTC Desire 626 white

HTC's strategy of distributing the 626 all over the globe as a value buy is a sound one, especially as casual users will gravitate toward its solid, well-considered build over so many blah-looking handsets. Just as competitive as the upper end of the...

The HTC Desire 626 has an attractive design and a compellingly low price. Call quality is strong.

Inconsistent image and video quality dog the Desire 626. Its stumbling performance drags the phone down, and weak automatic brightness make the handset's screen seem dim.

This may be one of the best-looking phones you can buy for the price, but keep shopping for a faster, savvier device than the HTC Desire 626.
