Bought this one on line with free shipping and was completely satisfied with the Technical Aspects of this Sony Cam Corder. Its ease of use... makes it a dream. Thanks, Roger / Florida /USA. Home Page: http://truth459.blogspot.com/ Ende...!
I purchased the Sony HDR-XR520 so I now only carry 'one' Camera. 12Mpx stills that I can capture on my 16Gig removable Memory stick pro duo. Up to 44 hrs of HD Video on the internal hard dirve. The HD Video can be recorded on the Memory Stick Also
Only the Sony Battery will work. I purchased an 'after market' one on line. It had all the same Physical and Voltage indentical requirements... BUT... SONY put a "Propriaty Chip".. in their Battery. The other one gave a "Bat Not Compatible" message

The Sony's are still at 16Mbs while brands such as JVC are now up to 24Mbs. Bit rate is as important as the processing. The higher bit rates are needed for fast moving scenes and when details are needed. Sony claims 12MP capabilities ??? What with a...
Massive Storage ; OIS ; 3.5" LCD screen
Interpolated to the max. About double its true pixel count ; Low 16Mbs bit rate at its highest quality setting, not enough.Other brands are up to 24Mbs now

Although its geotagging capabilities are mostly a novelty, its interface could use a complete overhaul and it's overpriced, the top-notch video quality, performance and consumer-friendly feature set of the Sony Handycam HDR-XR520VE make it a worthy...
First-rate video quality and performance ; Geotagging videos is fun
Annoying menu system ; No wind filter ; No manual shutter-speed, iris or audio controls ; Relatively big and heavy ; Expensive
The audio sounds good as well, and the mic is sensitive, although it could really use a wind filter. Still photos look okay, although, as you'd expect at the touted 12-megapixel resolution, interpolated up from the sensor's native 6 megapixels, photos...
The 6-megapixel shots look better. They should all, however, print decently up to 8 by 10 inches

If you want to shoot great video and not fiddle with settings too much, the Sony HDR-XR520 is up there with the best.
The top models from Canon, Panasonic and Sony are all masterful products. Canon's LEGRIA HF S10 is currently too expensive, but the Panasonic HDC-HS300 and Sony HDR-X520 are similarly priced and much harder to distinguish. The Panasonic's full-sized...
If you're a serious hobbyist or semi-pro, the Panasonic should be your first choice. But if you just want to shoot great video and not fiddle with settings too much, Sony's HDR-XR520 is a valid contender.

Sony's Full HD, 240GB camcorder has GPS to track where you film. But can it justify its painful price tag?
Pricey and far from compact, but if you want HD footage to really drool over this is hard to beat

Bulky but capable of delivering beautiful images, the XR520 is definitely an enthusiasts' HD camcorder
Superb HD video ; Great low-light shots ; Fun GPS features
Hefty price tag ; PC-only software ; Not compact or light
Save for its PC-only software and the fact Mac users will have to download additional codecs to edit footage, the XR520 is a camcorder that gets ringing endorsements all the way. If you're interested in substance over style and have ambitious filming...
