Sony KDL-40HX853

Sony's most affordable HX853 model turns out to be every bit as good as the others.

Awesome picture quality, Excellent online system, Powerful audio system

Confusing onscreen menu system, Very rare light blocking artefacts, Minor 3D crosstalk

Sony KDL-55HX853

Is this the best 55in LCD TV we've ever seen?

Outstanding picture quality ; Superb value for money ; Excellent online service

Could be easier to use in some areas ; SEN loads slowly ; Occasional 3D crosstalk

Sony 55HX853

First Look: We've managed to spend a couple of hours in the company of Sony's upcoming 55HX853. But did we like what we saw?

Add to all these apparent picture benefits the promise of improved sound via the speakers built into the attractive new desktop stand and an apparently much-improved version of Sony’s Bravia Internet Video online platform, and you know, Sony really...

Sony KDL-46HX853 review

Best 46-47in TV, Awards 2012. Looks great, and a truly outstanding performer at the price

Great looks, build and finish ; superb ergonomics ; does fine work with black tones and motion ; exceptional sound ; impeccable backlighting

No great shakes at upscaling DVD ; others offer even more dynamic contrasts ; 3D glasses cost extra

Best 46-47in TV, Awards 2012. A really outstanding performer at the price

Sony KDL-46HX853 review

Sony finally blows our telly-loving socks off

Elegant design ; Awesome 2D picture quality ; Good online content ; Excellent value

A little crosstalk with 3D ; A few operating issues ; SEN loads slowly ; Very rare backlight 'blocking

With the latest TV ranges from Samsung and LG already out and attracting mostly positive critical notices, the pressure on Sony's debut TV for 2012 really couldn't be any greater. Especially with Sony's TV business contributing spectacularly to the...

Is the Sony KDL-55HX853 the best TV money can buy?

Pristine HD images ; Outstanding motion resolution ; ‘Catch & throw’ DLNA sharing

Slight crosstalk on 3D ; Thin ; uninvolving sound ; Multimedia support limited

Sony Bravia 55-inch KDL-55HX853 LED TV

The Sony Bravia KDL-55HX853 is the second telly from the company's dynamic edge-LED range that's made its way into Pocket-lint towers. It's a mix of unusual design with bags of picture-enhancing technology and enough connectivity - both physical and...

Decent picture quality, good uniformity of picture from an edge-LED set, decent price at time of writing, attractive "art object" design, full of connectivity including Skype and catch-up services,

Slanted design won't suit all and is exaggerated in 55-inch model, corner filtration "vignettes" in bright scenes, dark scenes show some inevitable edge-LED light, default sound needs tweaking, SEN access is too slow, Homeshare needs a rework

One thing we've not yet touched upon is the KDL-55HX853's price. A handful of months is a long time in tech, and this big ole Bravia beastie doesn't have as big a price tag as you might imagine. Well, not any more anyway. The current sub-£1,450 price...

Sony KDL-55HX853 review

It's no exaggeration to say that Sony enjoyed a bumpy 2011. Quite apart from its well documented financial ills, the brand's sprawling TV range was wildly inconsistent, with not even top-flight models escaping criticism.

Outstanding image processing; artefact-free frame-rate frippery; stylish Monolith design; content-packed entertainment portal

Crosstalk still an issue with 3D content; thin, nasal sonics; no support for MKV
