Panasonic TX-42AS520

This 42-inch Full HD LCD TV, which is exclusive to Currys, has one truly outstanding feature: its price. It's currently available for just £399 – a price which would look remarkably low for even an ultra-basic 42-incher, yet this one also delivers a...

Strong value for money ; Decent picture quality if set up correctly ; Excellent Smart TV features

Unhelpful picture presets ; Pictures lack brightness after calibration ; Some motion blur

Panasonic TX-32AS500

A £300 32-inch TV from a big brand

Really cute design ; Rich, bright colours ; Good smart TV experience

Indifferent contrast ; Not many catch up TV services ; Average standard def upscaling

We’d also get the backlight down to around its 50% level – or even a bit less when watching films in darkened rooms – to try and improve the screen’s black level response.

Panasonic TX-32AS500B review

A decent, multitalented set for the price, but its performance doesn't quite pink slip the class-leaders

Crisp picture brimming with detail Punchy, vibrant palette User-friendly interface Good smart features

Rivals produce more subtlety Dark shades of colour often overdone

The Panasonic does a lot – and does it well. It may not produce the most subtle or natural picture on the market but, for a price that doesn’t cost the earth, it’s certainly worth a punt.

Panasonic TX-42AS500B review

This user-friendly TV with its rich, bright hues (and good value) is worth a viewing

Bright, detailed picture Punchy whites Good colour balance Customisable interface

Black levels need to be deeper Yellow tinge Limited connectivity

The lack of inky deep black levels may put some off, but this user-friendly TV with its bright hues is worth a look. We are particularly fond of the customisable interface. Rivals may offer a more natural colour balance, but this richly detailed and...

Panasonic TX-42AS500 review

A great smart TV for a very reasonable price

My Home Screen ; Netflix & BBC iPlayer ; Digital file support ; Freeview HD

Motion blur ; Lacks ultimate sharpness ; Few catch-up TV apps ; Just two HDMI inputs

A good value way to get into the world of smart TV, the Panasonic TX-42AS500 boasts plenty of apps, a friendly user interface, Freeview HD, great viewing angles and wide digital file support. Two HDMI inputs and a touch of motion blur are the lows on...

Panasonic TX-32AS500 review

Impressive HD-ready LED telly with smart TV apps and Freeview HD

Contrast & colour ; My Home Screen ; Remote 2 app ; USB file support

HD-ready panel ; Poor SD upscaling ; Disappointing sound

This HD-ready telly excels with Freeview HD and Blu-ray sources, but struggles with standard definition. Contrast and colour are exceptional, while the brilliant My Home Screen and its apps help make this a good value option for a second room.
