HP ScanJet G4010

Rarely do I look at a standalone scanner, but should you need to scan other than documents then a specialised standalone scanner comes to the fore especially for negatives and slides.

The comes with some excellent software that makes the scanning from whatever format just a matter of a few clicks, also included is PhotoSmart Premium that gives you control over the images once scanned, while the two work together they can be used...

HP - ScanJet G4010

As the latest innovation in photo printers is to move up from four colour cartridges to six, it was perhaps inevitable that the next technological advance for photo scanners was to reflect this change. So HP ...

For probably the best quality and authenticity of photo reproduction, the ScanJet G4010's 6-colour system is going to be hard to beat. It's a shame that it's let down by an unfriendly negative holder and overly complex operating software.

HP Scanjet G4010 Photo Scanner (3.5 mice)

The HP Scanjet G4010 Photo Scanner is a very capable desktop scanner with an impressive list of features, such as built-in transparency scanning for slides and film and six-color scans of reflective media.

Built-in transparency unit for scanning film and slides ; six-color scanning for hard-to-scan objects

Sluggish scanning speeds ; slide scans lack detail ; clunky scanning software

The G4010 is the first scanner I know of that generates scans from more than three colors. Most scanners have one lamp to illuminate an image or object, and a three-color RGB (red, green, and blue) sensor. The G4010 also sports an RGB sensor, but if...

HP Scanjet G4010

It scans as any scanner should. No better no worse The preview scanned view manipulation software is much imporved over my previous scanner, but not terribly intuitive

Once you have scanned your item, you can see a preview, but then you have to click again to edit/crop and the scanner makes little effort to determine the size of the image - so if you are scanning a normal size photo, you always have to crop it to get...

Product Specifications

The HP ScanJet G4010 Photo Scanner contains technology exclusive to HP - six-color, 96-bit scanning at 4800x9600dpi. The scanner produces incredibly color-accurate, faithful and detailed images that make impressive reprints for those who wish to scan photos, slides, negatives and documents to an almost professional standard. The scanner is perfect for the restoration of old photos due to built-in hardware based dust and scratch removal. Faded color can easily be heightened, dust and scratches removed and dark areas lightened using HP Real Life technologies.

Scan resolution enhanced disclaimer (long):What is the maximum resolution at which I can scan? HP Scanjet scanning systems will allow you to specify a resolution of up to 999, 999 enhanced dpi. In addition, by using lower dpi and high-scale factors (enlarging the image using dimension or resize tool), you can achieve a very high enhanced dpi. However, it is important to note that the maximum resolution that can be actually achieved depends upon various factors, including computer speed, available disk space, memory, the size of the image being scanned, and bit depth settings. Thus, depending on your system and what you are scanning, you may not be able to scan at certain resolutions. For example, using the same image and same dpi, scanning in 24-bit color requires at least 24 times more memory (in the form of hard disk space and available memory) than scanning in 1-bit black and white. In addition, the size of the area being scanned is very important. For example, scanning a 4 x 6-inch photograph at 999, 999 enhanced dpi and 24-bit color requires over 64 terabytes of disk space; thus, if your computer has a 50 gigabyte hard disk, which would be quite large, such a scan would require over 1, 000 disks. Even a 1/10th-inch square area, scanned at 999, 999 enhanced dpi as a 1-bit black-and-white image (not 24-bit color), creates an uncompressed file of over 9 gigabytes.
Scan resolution enhanced disclaimer (short):The maximum dpi at which you can scan is limited by available computer memory, disk space and other system factors.
