Onkyo TX-RZ800 review

Onkyo's TX-RZ800 marks a break from the brand's typical AVR design, offering an oversized volume dial and a pimple rash of tiny buttons. As a fashion statement, it must be said it's not particularly pretty, but it is at least different. Other changes...

Plenty of HDCP 2.2 HDMI inputs; sprightly multichannel delivery; Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatibility; ease of use and setup

Not massively dynamic; can sound overly hard and lacks finesse; boxy styling

It sounds delectable with high-res audio sources – although prefers unplugged to unleashed – and with DTS:X compatibility to complement Dolby Atmos promised, plus wide HDCP 2.2 HDMI input support, it’s not going to date any time soon. Give it a listen.

Very Please with Upgrade from Onkyo HTIB Receiver

Microphone barely reached the ideal listening position due to the large size of the room. I would estimate the microphone is only 16 feet or so. I had to stretch it with the cord suspended in air and use a large weight to keep it in place, barely...

Plenty of RMS power to handle Klipsch Synergy line. THX Reference level (+3dB on my receiver after AccuEQ) is boastfully loud with room to expand if one has the ears for it. Fills my 18x30 room (and whole house for that matter) with pristine sound at...

The auto-configuration has some limits which I did not care for during intial setup. Firstly, speakers can be set for 4-ohms or 6-ohms from the menu. I understand this is not a deal-breaker, but I prefer not setting my 8-ohm speakers as 4-ohm in the...

Great receiver

I drive KEF T305 sorround system with it. It works very well. I has enough power and does not distort sound until well ver 80% of the power. DLNA works just fine with my NAS.

When I finally decided to replace my ten year old Onkyo TX-NR900, I did my due diligence. I started looking at Marantz, then Yamaha, and finally Pioneer. I wanted to avoid brand loyalty and make an “objective” decision. I wasn't able to preview the...
