Marantz SR8002 review

Power and panache, rest assured the SR8002 is as well equipped as most people will ever need

A big, bold but still subtle sound ; good with music - for a multi-channel amp ; fine build

Not quite the last word in insight

The SR8002 is a solid performer in all respects – it’s well equipped, too

Marantz SR8002 A/V Receiver

As audio video enthusiasts, we all love the term 'flagship'. Don't we? Flagship models deliver cutting edge performance, pack the most power, offer the latest connections and usually have some nifty features. What's not to like about that? The topic of...

Marantz SR8002 7.1 A/V Receiver

The Marantz SR8002 7.1 receiver adds HDM 1.3 support and some other things that make it a product that you should audition if you are ready to spring for a new unit. It decodes all the new high def audio formats from Blu-ray discs, so get your tail in...

At an MSRP of $1999, one would be hard pressed to find many receivers that provide the features and refined sound of the Marantz SR8002. Starting with a plethora of inputs and ending with on-board decoding of high definition multi-channel audio and amp...

Marantz SR8002 7.1-Channel Receiver Reviewed

Our reviewer called the SR8002 "a powerhouse receiver that really excels in the audio department and does an excellent job on video as well." It supports many high-resolution surround sound formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD and provides "beautiful...

This receiver is a powerhouse when it comes toaudio, producing an inviting, powerful but not overly aggressive sound.Audiophiles will love it ; The included remote is a cinch to operate - a rarity for receivers at any price ; The unit supports latest...

The user interface in not very sexy and is largely text-based, although it is relatively easy to use, compared to other interfaces. The Marantz 8002 is not an iMac, but then again, you don't need an PhD in electrical engineering to operate this sucker...

Full-bodied, powerful audio and gorgeous high-def video are this receiver's calling cards and, with a feature list that goes on forever, you're getting a lot of functionality in a high-end receiver for not too much money ($2,000). This receiver isn't...

Marantz SR8002 A/V Receiver

Though priced at a comparatively modest $2000, the THX Select2- certified SR8002 tops Marantz's current A/V receiver lineup. We remember when flagship receivers all went for thousands of dollars more and, sad to say, none of the megabuck models of just...

The Marantz SR8002 has it all: style, performance, and user-friendly ergonomics. We especially appreciated that last one; thanks to intuitive menus and controls, the owner’s manual remained closed for most of our tests.

Marantz SR8002 A/V Receiver

Connected where it counts. Marantz is a brand name. It was once an individual as well. What would Saul Marantz have made of the SR8002 A/V receiver? It bears little resemblance to the hi-fi products he hand-built in his home in Kew Gardens, New York,...

At just under two thousand dollars, the Marantz SR8002 is not cheap. If your main goal is to access Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, and so on via HDMI 1.3a, there are less costly options. But if you want a deluxe implementation with all the audio enhancements...

UltimateAVmag.com: Marantz SR8002 A/V Receiver

In Donny Darko, Drew Barrymore's character, Ms. Pomery, says that a famous linguist once proclaimed "cellar door" to be the most beautiful phrase in the English language. I'm here to recommend we consider "Marantz" for that title, because it reproduces...

Powerful, musical amplification, Easy to use with a great remote, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, Two HDMI outputs for dual-display setups

No onscreen volume/source/surround mode display via HDMI or component

Like most modern receivers, there's so much to discover in the Marantz that this review could easily stretch to novella length. So let's just cut to the chase. The sound is superb, the feature set is extensive yet user friendly, and the $2000 price tag...
