Combining DarkChip 3 DLP technology with a bargain price is no easy feat. Does InFocus pull it off?
Although we finished the main review on a negative note, we really can't stress enough just what great value the IN78 is. You'd probably have to spend not far off double its £1,475 asking price to get something substantially better, while in its own...

It's expensive - is it worth the price premium?
Excellent DarkChip3 performance ; Easy to set up
Motion not always perfectly crisp ; Slightly noisy at times
Its performance isn't flawless, but it's certainly better than you're likely to get elsewhere at this price

The IN78 looks every bit as enticing from the outside, but its performance has slowly been surpassed
Great-looking package that's easy to set up ; good attention to detail ; strong blacks
Not the stunning colours of the very best ; could be crisper

Approach the InFocus IN78 with caution. It may look harmless but despite its dinky dimensions and glossy black finish what we might have here is the giant-killer of the home projector world.

Unless you're a bit of a technophile or know your projectors it's unlikely you would have heard of InFocus. Our earlier review of the InFocus IN76 proved they make top quality projectors, and this model, the IN78 is just as great.
The IN78 is a must-have for anyone wanting a high-performing projector that is easy to set up and use; while it may not be cheap it is less expensive than some of the other high-end projectors available costing around eight grand. For six thousand less...

Given how preposterously cheap other recent InFocus DLP projectors have been, we guess £2,000 might seem quite a hike for the brand's new IN78.That is until you check out its specification
Superb picture quality, Few picture flaws, Wonderful colour reproduction
Appears expensive
A classic example of getting what you pay for - £2,000 is a lot of money, but this is a lot of projector

The IN78 is an excellent home theatre projector, but it's not much of an improvement over the previous model. Its price tag is also rather high, considering how little has been done to improve the product.
Excellent performance in standard and high definition modes, Attractive design
Too Expensive, Not much of an improvement over the previous model

The IN78 is an incremental update to a very popular projector line that includes the IN72, IN74 and IN76. Incremental upgrades are nice in that they update hardware and make sure that a product line
Excellent color detail ; Nicely-designed backlit remote control ; 3 direct access source/inputs from remote ; Sleek black enclosure ; Handles 1080p/60 and 480i via HDMI (scaling to 720p)
Tough competition at this price ; Mild rainbow effect present during high contrast action sequences ; Didn't pass blacker-than-black ; No lens shift and high fixed offset ; Awkward menu navigation

With the PlayBig IN78, InFocus cushions its 1080p no-show with a tweaked version of its popular 720p PlayBig home theatre projectors now featuring Imaging Science Foundation 3C professional calibration support.
Outlook Not only is the PlayBig IN78 a late 720p entry in today's 1080p-crazed market, the pricing of this model is also hard to swallow in our humble opinion. If you don't mind forking out extra for professional calibration and out-of-the-box D65...
