Canon PIXMA MP980 All-In-One Inkjet

Extra ink shades make this all-in-one inkjet printer ideal for photographers.

Canon Pixma MP980 review

For its price, the Canon Pixma MP980 could be better in some ways, but it is, at least, progressive.

Considering the Canon Pixma MP980's price, we would have liked a faster machine with fewer oddities. However, it's solidly built and reasonably priced to run, and therefore still well worth considering.

Canon Pixma MP980

Another quality inkjet AIO (All In One) from Canon. When closed it looks like a grey box with a black trim round the top edge. However lift the small lid at the front and a large TFT is revealed together with the buttons to control it.

The Canon Pixma MP980 measures 44x38x19cm when closed, insert A4 paper in the rear tray and the last figure the height increases by 20cm, that is also enough to insert anything on the flatbed as it will enable the landscape lid to be lifted to around...

Canon Pixma MP980 review

Canon's Pixma MP980 colour inkjet multifunction printer offers many premium-level features for photo enthusiasts.

Good results on Canon's own photo paper, reasonably priced, solid build, ink costs reasonable

You need a third-party adaptor for some camera media, average printing speeds, reproduction not perfect, a few odd quirks

Considering the Canon Pixma MP980's price, we would have liked a faster machine with fewer oddities. However, it's solidly built and reasonably priced to run, and therefore still well worth considering.

Canon Pixma MP980

Several of Canon's range of all-in-one printers are designed for home and semi-pro photographers, and with the Pixma MP980, the company is further tailoring to this market by improving the black-and-white print quality of the machine. Its immediate...

With an ISO black page coming in at around 2.7p and 5.8p for an equivalent colour one, this machine is economical to run. Although the asking price is higher than that of its predecessor, the wireless networking built-in to the Pixma MP980 is a...

Canon PIXMA MP980

The PIXMA MP980 multifunction can scan 35mm slides and film negatives, but it is very slow at printing.

Ethernet connectivity, automatic duplexing, film negative and 35mm slide scanning, good scan quality

Agonisingly slow print speeds, some print quality issues

Though the MP980 offers some decent features, its printing speeds and some quality issues make for a disappointing machine, particularly from Canon.

Canon Pixma MP980 review: Canon Pixma MP980

Canon Pixma MP980

Space-saving design; robust software; interactive LCD menu; dual-paper feeds; fast graphics and photo prints; auto-duplexer included.

Poor print quality; expensive; no fax machine; flimsy paper cassette; slow text output speed; unreliable wireless performance; unique gray ink can be hard to find.

The Canon Pixma MP980 multifunction printer, copier, and scanner are a step up from its predecessor, but the print quality isn't up to standard and it doesn't perform as quickly as the competition. The HP Photosmart Premium Fax all-in-one is a less...

Canon's Pixma MP980 color inkjet multifunction printer offers many premium-level features for photo enthusiasts. For its price ($300 as of 12/09/2008), it could be better in some ways, but it is, at least, progressive.

Intuitive control-panel design Dual input trays; automatic duplexing

Expensive; odd colorings on plain paper Rattletrap rear input-tray design

Ink costs are reasonable. The machine ships with standard-size cartridges: a 344-page pigment black (K), and 447-page photo gray, cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). A replacement pigment black costs $13.99 (4.1 cents per page). The other colors...
