An A3+ printer which doesn't cost the earth to buy and produces high quality images at good print speeds, particularly when printing photos.

Comparatively quick photo print, Telescopic paper supports for small footprint, 9,600dpi max resolution

No memory card slots or PictBridge, No LCD display, No wireless connection

Canon PIXMA iX6550 review

Canon's PIXMA iX6550 inkjet printer doesn't have a scanner, copier, automatic document feeder, auto-duplex or any other complicated circuitry to confuse you — all it does is print documents and photos from the tiny 6x4in size all the way to A3+. It's...

Canon's iX6550 is a good general-purpose A3 printer for any office or home user who just needs reasonable print quality and doesn't mind the restriction of USB-only connectivity.

Canon Pixma iX6550

The iX6550 isn't awash with features, but those after a somewhat compact A3 printer should find it good value.

Up to A3 printing ; Very compact for an A3 printer ; Fair print speeds, especially for A3 ; Good print quality

USB cable not supplied ; No other networking options ; Confusing page yield quotes make office economising difficult ; Plastic construction feels cheap

The only real market for an A3 printer should be folks who regularly need to print at up to A3 size. For anyone else a number of multifunction printers, including several of Canon's own would serve their purposes better, with perhaps a trip to the...

Canon PIXMA iX6550 A3 printer

This simple office or home printer handles A3 with aplomb

Compact ; Good print quality

No networking ; Flimsy plastic build quality

The Canon PIXMA iX6550 does a good job of printing A4 and A3 documents and colour photos. We don't have any real problems with it apart from the slightly plasticky build quality and lack of USB cable — otherwise it acquits itself well as a competent if...

Interested in moving up to an A3+ inkjet printer, but don’t want to make a huge investment?

Canon Pixma IX6550

Stunning quality and speedy prints. 6 x 4 inch photo quality print in about 30 seconds. Also very quick for A4 and A3 size prints. Older cartridges which are plentiful

Ink tanks are small for this size of printer. Frequent cartridge changes if you're printing lots of A3s
