Brother MFC-J870DW

An inkjet all-in-one with NFC mobile print and direct print on DVDs.

SD, MemoryStick and front USB sockets ; Separate photo tray ; 20 sheet ADF

Photo tray manual operation ; Plain paper print a little blurred ; Very slow photo prints

Software in the MFC-870DW includes Brother’s MFL-Pro Suite and PaperPort 12 SE from Nuance.

Brother MFC-J870DW review

The advantage of using NFC is that you don't need a wireless connection for a device to 'speak' to the printer as it relies on the same short-range transmission as contactless payment via a mobile. But the NFC facility is only there to help set up a...

There's no question that the Brother MFC-J870DW has a host of excellent features including optical-disc direct printing and touchscreen controls. While it showcases NFC capability this will be of limited appeal since photo print speeds are very...

Brother MFC-J870DW review

We love this MFP's interface and comprehensive features, but both print and scan quality are disappointing

Brother MFC-J870DW

A potentially great fit for a micro or home office, and packed with MFP features, the Brother MFC-J870DW inkjet MFP can print from a near field communications (NFC) capable phone.

Setting up the MFC-J870DW is standard fare. For my tests, I connected to a network using the Ethernet port, and installed the drivers on a Windows Vista system. On our business applications suite I clocked the printer (using QualityLogic’s hardware and...

Brother MFC-J870DW

The Brother MFC-J870DW inkjet MFP offers Near-Field Communications (NFC) for easy printing from NFC-capable phones.

Prints, scans, copies, faxes. Prints on printable optical discs. Features Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and NFC (near field communication).

Low-paper capacity (100 sheets plus a 4-by-6 photo paper tray).

As with the MFC-J825DW that it replaces in both Brother's line and as Editors' Choice, the Brother MFC-J870DW offers a long list of features—from its ADF, to its duplexer, to its NFC support—that makes it highly attractive for office use. The low paper...

Review: Brother MFC-J870DW boasts NFC and many more features, but performance is just average

The Brother MFC-J870DW is affordably priced, and it comes with a long list of features. Its performance is just average, however, so it's a buy for quantity rather than quality.

Reasonably priced inks ; Two-year warranty ; Impressively long feature list includes NFC and CD/DVD printing

Copying two-sided documents is a tedious, manual process

Still delighted after 17 months!

This printer is still mechanically faultless after 17 months - such a change from the Kodak it replaced! The software is not very user-friendly but it does the job, and having an economical, reliable, and quiet printer is still a source of pleasure....

Further to my previous post, Viking helpfully found that another range of cartridges are compatible with the MFC-J870DW (the LC 123 range) so all is well. I've kept the printer and am delighted with it!

I ordered this printer from Viking and a supply of cartridges. Everything arrived except the two extra black cartridges. I am now told by Viking that these cartridges are no longer being made and in fact the printer has been discontinued too. So I am...

I just wanted a wifi printer with a scanner and I don't print a lot and was happy with the print quality for 12 months and 2 days but then I had to change one of the colour cartridges and noticed that the touch screen was blank. I contacted brother who...
