Sony Ericsson W380i

With some fancy input controls and a 'hidden' display, does Sony Ericsson's W380i live up to the Walkman brand?

I've already mentioned that I am not a fan of the angular look of this phone. Its size also reduces its appeal for me. The 100g of weight is no problem at all. But this phone is big. With the clam closed it measures 92mm tall, 49mm wide and 16mm thick....

Sony Ericsson W380i Walkman review

A bargain mobile phone without the cut corners

High quality music player ; Budget price ; Distinctive design ; 'Concealed' front panel OLED display and music player buttons ; 512B M2 memory card and decent earphones supplied

Basic 1.3-megapixel camera ; No flash or autofocus for camera ; No video capture facilities ; Music buttons need firm pressing ; No 3G ; Poor loudspeaker quality

If you can look past the basic camera and lack of 3G, this is a fantastic, well-featured phone at a very competitive price

Sony Ericsson W380i mobile phone

Another day, another Walkman handset, so why does Sony Ericsson believe the W380i is the handset to own? We make some calls to find out. As a basic Walkman handset the W380 throws no punches and therefore is unlikely to offend.

Braille playback keys, simple

1.3-megapixel camera, gesture control pointless

As a basic Walkman handset the W380 throws no punches and therefore is unlikely to offend.

Sony Ericsson W380i Walkman phone review

There's no doubt that the Sony Ericsson W380i is a stunning-looking phone. The slightly unusual clamshell design creates a compact parallelogram shape and at 92x49x16mm it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.

While we liked the design of the phone and the Walkman functionality, the fact the device only supports a 512MB memory stick and the poor quality camera means we’re not willing to ditch our iPod for an all-in-one phone and digital audio player just yet.

Sony Ericsson's latest music phone, the W380i, brings quirky gesture controls and its famed Walkman player to the prepay party

Ideal if you want a sweet music set-up at a tidy pre-pay price. But it could have been even cheaper without the pointless gesture controls

Gesture Control Phone : Sony Ericsson W380i

Adding to its range of Walkman mobile phones, Sony Ericsson has released the W380 model.

Measuring 92 x 49 x 16mm and weighing 100g, the Sony Ericsson W380 is a clamshell device with a slopping aspect at either end. The review unit is predominately electric purple in colour with silver embellishments and the familiar Walkman “W” logo in...

Sony Ericsson W380i

The W380i's front plate houses the lens of a 1.3 Mpix camera along with the loudspeaker and an array of music controls, which are all touch-sensitive, and as long as they are locked (enable them with the help of the toggle on the back) no matter how...

Sony Ericsson W380i review

We review the Sony Ericsson W380i Walkman phone, a low-cost, slick-looking clamshell with novel extras that's designed for music mobile buyers on a budget

Neat, stylish design ; Fine quality music player with decent earphones ; Novel extra gimmicks ; Good value for money

Poor 1.3 megapixel camera quality ; No video recording ; No 3G capability

A budget-priced but attractive Walkman phone producing a decent music performance - but imaging facilities are limited
