Samsung Captivate SGH-i897 Review

Let me start this off by saying that I think it's about time AT&T has finally gotten a decent Android phone! The Samsung Galaxy S or Captivate is here to save us from the mediocrity that is what AT&T is offering now for Android phones.

Samsung SGH-i897

Decent phone but memory and processor are showing their age. I think the latest official update was 2.3.5 Gingerbread.

I have had this phone [not from Newegg] for over 2 years. It still works pretty well. I think the screen looks great [even if newer phones are a little better these days

Newer apps bog it down. Facebook and the like assume everyone has quad core tablets and stuff now so expect to have some kind of task manager to kill background apps. I spam my all the time to keep memory free. Also, there are a few quirky bugs. It...

Not very good.

I recommend Smart Launcher instead of the default home screen this will reduce the phone crashing when hitting home.

Small and compact. Other than that, going against guidelines, it is really easy to root (WILL VOID WARRANTY) and is therefore a versatile phone in that regard. Probably a good miniature tablet that can handle Skype

Low memory; constantly crashes. Default OS downloads to 2MB cache, preventing you from downloading anything over 2MB, Samsung won't update. Won't handle many apps. Slow processor clock speed

Great Phone even with no 2.2

At first it will look like the battery doesn't fit but a quick scan of the directions will show the bottom of the phone will slide out to accommodate.

Works flawlessly, 1Ghz processor, cheaper than buying it new

Still no 2.2 update

Recert didn't go so well ...

I've RMA'ed the phone and am deciding if I want to go with this phone or the Vibrant in its place.

Phone reportedly has lots of features

I got the phone and battery would not fit inside the phone. When they did the recertification, they must have put another outer shell on it and it wasn't correctly aligned. In addition, the back cover would not fit either. Didn't want to mess with it...

Refurbished phone for power users...

Since this is a refurb, I understand someone returned it to AT&T for some reason. My came with Eclari 2.1 and a ton of bloatware I got rid of by rooting and installing the Designgears leaked Froyo 2.2 so now I have an upgraded phone with no AT&T...

This phone is the AT&T version of the I9000 Samsung Galaxy. You get all the power, screen size and storage you would get from the I9000 without the $600+ price tag. Supports every app out there, shoots great HD video and even better 5MPx pictures....

The only 3 hardware differences I could find between this phone and it's I9000 cousin are: 1. This phone does not have a front facing camera, but to be honest with all of you, this feature is rarely used. I came from a Nokia 7390 with a front facing...
