We've been using the new Max model to find out if it's just about going big, or whether there is more to this iPhone than the others in the range.

Great cameras ; 5G connectivity when you need it ; Big and bold screen ; Design is large but not awkward ; A14 Bionic processing power

Low-light photography enhancements could be better ; Much the same experience as the cheaper (and smaller) iPhone 12 Pro

Such a large phone that it won't be to everyone's liking, but if you want big then this iPhone delivers without making the form-factor awkward to hold or use.

Is bigger really better? The Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max is a sizeable smartphone that doesn't know the meaning of compromise

Excellent new design ; Impressive camera set-up ; Lovely large display ; Almost unreasonably powerful

No ProMotion/120Hz display ; Edges are a fingerprint magnet ; Lightning instead of USB-C ; Big, bulky and heavy

The only choice if you want to fully Max your iPhone experience, but make sure that’s you before plonking down any cash

The best iPhone you can buy is equipped with a superb set of cameras but it is very large

Incredible camera ; Very powerful ; Gorgeous but tough design

Very large ; Battery life isn’t hugely impressive ; Disappointing zoom

When you’re spending over £1,000 on a phone, discovering that anything isn’t as good as it was on the previous model is going to be a little disappointing, especially as the phone itself is the largest Apple has ever built.
