Lenovo Legion 7 gaming laptop review: A smash hit

Lenovo's all-powerful gaming laptop isn't small or especially portable, but it sure is a gaming great - if you can afford one.

High-resolution and very bright screen ; Excellent power-to-size ratio ; Surprisingly effective and quiet cooling ; Classy metal casing

Shallower keyboard than the Legion 5 Pro ; Display doesn't have the deepest blacks

Lenovo brings touches of conventional laptop design to the gaming space, resulting in one of the most desirable gaming laptops of 2021. The step-down Legion 5 Pro may be a better buy for many, though, but if you can afford one of the top-spec models,...

Top tier performance ; Mega quality 2k display ; A gamers laptop

Zero lighting on keyboard ; No Thunderbolt 4 port

Summary This laptop is marketed as a performance-first product powered by an AMD CPU and GPU. This specific model features an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU, an AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT, 32GB of DDR5 Ram, a 16” WQXGA IPS display, 1TB PCIe SSD Gen 4, and a 1080p...

Review: The AMD-based Legion 7 (Gen 6) boosts battery, lacks some features

Lenovo splits its high-end Legion line between Intel and AMD hardware, with similar design but different features and performance. I tested the AMD version to see how it stacks up against its siblings and other popular gaming laptops.

Stable, high-end performance ; 16:10 QHD+ display is tops ; Impressive audio quality and volume ; Keyboard and touchpad handle gaming AND productivity ; More affordable than Intel version

No Thunderbolt, IR camera, or fingerprint reader ; Only one display option ; Battery performance unimpressive ; Camera only 720p ; PCIe 3.0 storage only

Bottom line: The AMD-based Legion 7 (Gen 6) doesn't quite have the same level of raw performance as the Intel system, and it doesn't have PCIe 4.0 or Thunderbolt. But it does offer better battery life and a lower price for high-end models.
