The HP Omen has a specification and price that marks it out as a gaming laptop, but it's a different beast than most of its rivals.

A well-balanced combination of power and portability – and the price is rather good, too

In all, though, there’s not much that the HP Omen 15 (2018) does wrong. It may not be as thin, light or drop-dead gorgeous as the Razer Blade 15 or as all-out brutish as the Acer Predator Helios 500, but it’s well-priced and a darned good compromise.

Powered by a Nvidia GeForce 1060, the 15.6-inch HP Omen is one of the only 4K gaming laptops you'll find south of $2,000.

The VR-ready HP Omen is one of the cheaper laptops packing a Nvidia GeForce 1060 GPU, it's got a terrific display, a comfortable keyboard and a super-speedy Intel i7 processor. Plus, it's stylish for a gaming laptop.

Its 4K screen means woeful battery life, falls behind other 1060-equipped laptops on benchmark tests.

It's not as elegant as a Razer Blade or as powerful as an Alienware, but the 15-inch HP Omen is one of the better machines in its price range.
