Apple MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz review

Editors' note: As of June 2009, the product reviewed here has been replaced by these updated models .

New aluminum unibody construction looks good, feels solid; giant trackpad; attractive edge-to-edge glass on display; new dual graphics provide more power or more battery life.

All-clicking trackpad is a bit awkward, at least initially; the extra-glossy screen won't appeal to everyone; switching GPUs not as seamless as it should be; similar performance to the cheaper 13-inch MacBook; still no media card slot.

Apple's redesigned 15-inch MacBook Pro boasts a redesigned aluminum body that's stunning, thin, and sturdy; a new trackpad with expanded functionality; and a dual graphics setup for either longer battery life or better performance, but there's now less...

Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo review

The 13.3-inch Apple MacBook and 15.4-inch MacBook Pro , both featuring Intel Core 2 Duo processors, impressed us by mixing Apple's lauded industrial design and user-friendly operating system with the kind of high-end hardware usually seen only on the...

Lightest 17-inch laptop we've seen; has a built-in Webcam and a remote control; can run Windows XP via Boot Camp; adds FireWire 800 support.

Lacks media card reader; comes with only 90 days of toll-free technical support.

Apple's Core 2 Duo 17-inch MacBook Pro is especially thin and light for a desktop replacement, making it an attractive choice for multimedia users on the go.

Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo Review

Not much has changed visually from the Core Duo MacBook Pro. What has changed is not initially visible. Apple abandoned the vertical vents in favor of horizontal vents, allowing more air to move freely from the case. This single change has helped to...

Added larger hard drive, FireWire 800, and dual-layer DVD burner ; 1" thick ; Very portable for a 15 ; Improved battery life ; Great screen

Needs more USB ports ; Speakers are weak ; No higher resolution screen available

This is Apple's second try with an Intel processor in their flagship notebook and the results are much better. I am not sure what exactly went wrong with the Core Duo MacBook Pro's quality control, but there were widespread reports of issues, not to...

Apple MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz)

Apple's new 15-inch MacBook Pro has a raft of new features, however, there's now less incentive to spend extra on a Pro because its 13-inch mainstream cousin received a greater overhaul.

New aluminium unibody construction looks good, feels solid ; Giant multi-touch touchpad ; Attractive edge-to-edge glass on display ; New dual-mode graphics provide more power or more battery life

All-clicking touchpad is a bit awkward, at least initially ; The extra-glossy screen won't appeal to everyone ; Switching GPUs not as seamless as it should be ; Similar performance to the cheaper 13-inch MacBook ; Still no media card slot

Apple continues to both frustrate and impress with its service and support. MacBooks include a standard one-year parts-and-labour warranty, but only 90 days of toll-free telephone support. This, along with the proprietary nature of Apple's products,...

Apple MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, 17-inch)

Apple's Core 2 Duo 17-inch MacBook Pro is especially thin and light for a desktop replacement, making it an attractive choice for multimedia users on the go.

Lightest 17-inch laptop we've seen ; Has a built-in Webcam and a remote control ; Can run Windows XP via Boot Camp ; Adds FireWire 800 support

Lacks media card reader ; Comes with only 90 days of toll-free technical support

The default warranty for the MacBook Pro is one year of coverage for parts and labour, but toll-free telephone support is limited to a mere 90 days -- well short of what you'd typically find on the PC side. You can purchase the AU$579 AppleCare...

APPLE MACBOOK PRO CORE 2 DUO 2.16GHZ 1024MB 120GB OSX TIGER SUPERDRIVE

Good Performance ; Smaller and less heavy ; Compatibility with Windows XP or OS X ; No noise ; High quality webcam ; Special remote for media and power point

Gives out lot of heat ; Lacks media card reader ; Only 90 days of toll-free technical support
