Sony MDR-1RNC noise cancelling over-ear headphones

We've had the Sony MDR-1RNC noise cancelling over-ear headphones in the Pocket-lint offices for weeks now and have been using them non-stop - while at work, when commuting, out on the streets and at home. We already had a lot of love to give to the...

Comfy, stylish, great sound, lots of mid-high frequency range 'snap' yet enough bass to deliver a rounded sound

Active noise cancellation strips back the sound, exposed drivers can touch against ears, not necessarily perfect for on-the-go listening as wind catches external mics when noise cancellation is on, price is too steep

We think the MDR-1RNC headphones are exceptional in part, but not as a whole. The build quality, design and overall sound quality is excellent, yet the active noise cancellation strips the sound back a step too far for our ears.

Sony MDR-1RNC

The Sony MDR-1RNC noise-cancelling headphones claim to offer 99.7 percent noise cancellation. While that's all good and well, it's not ideal if the sound quality of what you do Sony MDR-1RNC has no tags.

Sony MDR1-RNC

The Sony MDR1-RNC offers laudable audio quality and solid noise cancellation, but despite top-notch performance, it's priced too high.

Distortion-free audio performance with rich bass and crisp highs. Outputs audio in passive mode. Extremely comfortable. Includes two detachable audio cables, one with inline remote and microphone for mobile devices.

Overpriced compared with similar models. No battery charger or ¼-inch adapter included.

Just about all of the competition costs less. The Bose QuietComfort 15 delivers slightly more effective noise cancellation, but can't match the MDR1-RNC's sonic performance. For the same price as the MDR1-RNC, the Sennheiser MM 550-Xalso delivers...

Sony MDR-1RNC headphones

Given that Sony practically created the mobile music business, it's not surprising to find that its entrant into this premium category is very solid. In fact, we only had one gripe with the MDR-1RNC headphones that stopped us from giving these a higher...

Good sound; USB charging

Comfort

There’s a lot to like about these headphones. The noise cancellation is excellent and makes listening to music a pleasure. There’s faithful reproduction of sounds that makes you feel like you’re with the performers. If they were a little...

Great compromise between good sound and NC

This headset is ideal for someone who wants simply the best of both sound quality and noise cancellation beyond all else. however it comes at a price, literally and figuratively. The biggest draw back being the size and the weight, the NC500(600)D is...
