Master & Dynamic MH40

The MH40 are premium over-ear, open-back headphones with a striking retro design and sumptuous build quality.

Wide soundstage ; Thundering bass ; Beautifully built ; Mute button

Leak like a sieve ; Not the most detailed mid-range ; Heavy ; Bass might be too much for some

Fun headphones for home listening, with powerful bass and a wide soundstage, but they lack subtlety.

Master & Dynamic MH40 review: expensive but worth it

With the Master & Dynamic MH40, luxury never sounded so good

Fantastic sound quality with lots of headroom ; Comes with plane-friendly accessories ; Premium design and construction ; Solid battery life

Limited features ; No vegan version ; Expensive

The Master & Dynamic MH40 is a luxurious pair of headphones with a price tag that might question your sanity for a product without active noise-cancelling. However, once you hear and see the build quality for yourself, you’ll get it.

Master & Dynamic MH40 review

These over-ear headphones offer more than just good looks

Gorgeous design ; Braided cables ; Comfort ; Audio is full of attack

Too expensive ; Light bass response

If money isn't tough to come by, the Master & Dynamic MH40 provide an experience that will satisfy music lovers with plenty of comfort and performance packed inside this delightfully-designed homage to the audio equipment of yesteryear.

Master & Dynamic MH40 review: Beautiful-looking headphones, but the sound quality doesn't quite measure up

The MH40 looks great but the sound quality doesn't quite measure up

Design and looks ; Removable cable design

Price ; Overall sound quality ; Sound leakage and isolation

The Master & Dynamic MH40 is one of the most attractive, beautifully designed pairs of headphones I’ve had the privilege to lay hands on. Constructed entirely from aluminium and leather, they feel like they’ve been built to last.

Master and Dynamic MH40 review: Beautifully crafted, rock-solid headphones

The over-the-ear MH40 from headphone newcomer Master and Dynamic has impressive build quality and excellent sound.

The Master and Dynamic MH40 headphones are constructed out of premium materials and have excellent build quality along with excellent sound. The headphones come with a decent carrying case and two cables (one has an inline mic/remote for smartphone...

While they're comfortable, the headphones are heavy -- maybe too heavy for some people.

Not everybody will love the fit of Master and Dynamic's over-the-ear MH40 headphones, but they are very well-built and sound excellent.

The Audiophiliac checks out a new company's headphones, and they're a knockout.

Master & Dynamic MH40 Wireless Review

Strong audio performance with rich, accurate bass depth and a focus on details and clarity in the highs. ; Excellent mic intelligibility. ; Luxurious build. ; Some passive noise reduction thanks to thick earpads.

Lacks AAC Bluetooth codec support. ; No app.

The Master & Dynamic MH40 Wireless headphones combine luxurious materials with a strong focus on clear, accurate audio quality.

Master & Dynamic’s MH40 Wireless look and feel like $300, but don’t sound like it

Looks can be deceiving

Premium build materials help them stand out ; Comfortable to wear ; Can connect to multiple devices simultaneously

Sound quality isn’t on par with other $300 headphones ; System interface noises are annoying ; Battery performance falls short of claims, despite an auto power-off feature

Master & Dynamic’s new wireless version of the MH40 maintain the original’s good looks. But in the pursuit of making a lighter, more comfortable set of headphones, the sound quality suffers compared to the competition and their feature set is very...
