Garmin Forerunner 405 - Pocket-lint

The Forerunner 405 delivers on its promises, putting a whole range of data at your fingertips, but at a price. With fitness add-ons appearing for a range

Compact design, reliably hangs on to GPS and HRM signals, touch bezel and button combination works well

No software provided, price

Having been a fan of previous Forerunner models, the 405 certainly delivers enough to get excited about. The new form factor being is the most significant development here – whilst still chunky, you don’t feel as though you have a massive lump on your...

Garmin Forerunner 405 review

Garmin's flagship GPS watch combines fitness data and basic navigation without looking too geeky to wear to the pub

Looks great for a training tool and works well, but not the easiest to use when you’re hot and bothered

Garmin Forerunner 405 review

The top model in Garmin's Forerunner range of fitness watches, the 405 features GPS and a wireless heart-rate monitor – an optional extra, included in the Amazon.co.uk price list. It offers an impressive range of workout types, wrapped up in a neat,...

The Garmin Forerunner 405 is a robust, good-looking and fully featured device, but it’s expensive and quite hard to use.

Review: Garmin Forerunner 405

For the athlete who wants an all-in-one device, this wrist-top racer is it. Garmin shrank the GPS receiver to fit into what looks like a...

User-friendly online software with integrated Google Maps and enough graphs for a PowerPoint presentation. Built-in GPS means no extra pods needed. Tracks routes so you’ll never get lost again

Plasticky heart-rate monitor strap is uncomfortable. Poor satellite reception on overcast days shortchanged our speed and distance. Sorry, triathletes: It’s still not sealed for swimming

Product Specifications

The Forerunner 405CX is the evolution of GPS-enabled training. This sleek sport swatch tracks your time, distance, pace and heart rate, then wirelessly sends the data to your PC for later analysis. The 405CX features heart rate-based calorie computation. Loaded with serious training features, Forerunner 405CX continuously records your time, distance, pace, calories burned and heart rate. Each workout is stored in large internal memory so you can review and analyze the data to see how you've improved. And advanced training features will challenge you to step up your pace - race against Forerunner's Virtual Partner to improve your times, or set up interval workouts without having to circle the track. You can even download recorded courses to compete against previous workouts. To use the watch, simply tap the touch bezel to change screens without fumbling for a button. Forerunner 405CX comes with a flexible, wireless heart rate monitor to help you make the most out of your training. The digital heart rate monitor continuously tracks heart beats per minute and uses your heart rate for advanced calorie computation, so you know how many calories you're burning. Train in a certain heart rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance on the same run.
