Reviewers say the Garmin eTrex Venture HC offers the most bang for the buck for those looking for a low-cost handheld GPS receiver. Unlike other inexpensive handheld GPS receivers, the eTrex Venture HC comes with a color screen and a...
Inexpensive, highly sensitive signal processor, color display
Non-expandable memory, no high-end features, included maps aren't the most detailed

The Garmin eTrex Venture HC is the entry-level mapping receiver in Garmin's eTrex H-series lineup. With a high-sensitivity receiver for superior reception under canopy, a bright color screen, and the ability to load topo maps (purchased separately),...
SPECIAL NOTE TO BUYERS: Don't confuse the Venture HC with the discontinued Venture or the Venture Cx, which does not have the high-sensitivity chipset. Find the low price on a Garmin eTrex Venture HC at GPS Now, where shipping is free on orders over...

Importing/Exporting data has a wide range of compatibility. gpsbabel is your friend. Recording tracks, importing them to google earth. Creating tracks (in mapsource or google earth) & then exporting back to the device etc*+ All of the data, including...
Very very durable. Excellent Value ; These little yellow devices really sold me on Garmin's hand held line ; I don't think it floats ; Might be worth it to try and find in the $115-$120 range ; No electric compass. This pretty much means you have to...
Getting the full potential out of these means some *dedicated time ; There are plenty of maps @ gpsfiledepot & for the most part you should be able to stack them until the device is full. By majority the 'offroad' maps also include roads ; You probably...

Adapter is about 30 feet away through 2 walls and connects at max speed-don't think just buy it
Very good at getting GPS signal in any condition or overhead coverage
the map it came with was only major highways with major city names. It is NOTHING like what you see in the picture. The worst part is the maps you need cost $169 !!!!!! So get ready to spend more than double the price of the device to use it
Consumer review (newegg.com)

I heard pros and cons on compass and altimeter, pros are that these are nice features to have cons are, to use compass you have to recalibrate all the time and hold unit perfectly straight/still for it to get accurate readings and altimeter is always...
Can display 24K TOPO maps, sensitive GPS finds signal everywhere I took it
No expandable memory, after update only 22mb available, doesn't have compass, altimeter (read in other thoughts)
Consumer review (newegg.com)
Overall, very enjoyable GPS (see my earlier review). Love the color display. Seems the batteries last at least as long as the old grayscale eTrex Legend
Two. After some testing, the proximity alarms don't work, and apparently that is true for all units. Someone suggested you can get proximity alarms to work if you download points of interest to the unit from the software, but I probably wouldn't...
