Sony DSC-TX20

A rugged, waterproof camera with a 16.2-megapixel sensor and compact body.

Capacitive touchscreens use conduction to sense points of contact, and are naturally tripped-up by the conductive properties of H2O. You can use the camera in watery conditions, but it severely cuts-down how many of the Sony DSC-TX20’s features you...

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX20 review

A tough camera doesn't have to be ugly

Stylish design ; Decent waterproofing ; Responsive AF system ; User-friendly ; Good colour reproduction

Lens could be sharper ; Max aperture isn't very fast ; Aggressive noise reduction system ; Expensive

Sony's latest 'tough' compact camera, the TX20, boasts a pretty comprehensive feature-set, with a 16.2MP 1/2.3-inch Exmor CMOS sensor, Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens, a 921,000-dot, 3-inch touchscreen LCD screen and Full HD movie recording.

The Sony Cyber-shot TX20 isn't a regular tough camera. Eschewing the typical bulky and rubberised finish, the TX20 is slim and suave, but still offers

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20 review

With the Cyber-shot DSC-TX20, Sony has once again proven that a rugged camera need not look like a tank or some sort of extreme sports gear in order to be waterproof and shockproof. The TX20 is dustproof and can operate underwater down to 16 feet and...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20 is a slick, small rugged ultracompact that is fast to focus and shoot, and has plenty of fun shooting options for those looking to do more than just take pictures.

The TX20's photo quality is disappointing compared with nonrugged Sony Cyber-shots, and its design is almost too small and slippery to use in water.

The rugged camera that doesn't look rugged, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20 is a nice option for people wanting an ultracompact for days by the pool and nights on the town.

Sony Cyber-shot TX20 Review

The Sony Cyber-shot TX20 is an ultra compact waterproof camera from Sony with a 16.2 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, Full HD video recording, and a 3 inch touch screen on the back. It's one of the most stylish waterproof cameras available and is...

1cm macro mode, Full HD video, 10fps continuous shooting, Good image quality and colour, Extremely compact, stylish, Doesn't look like a waterproof camera

No real difference between the TX20 and TX10, Some small touch buttons on screen, Forgets / resets lens position when you go into playback mode, High price

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20 is gorgeous on the outside thanks to a slick and slim design and a sharp rear touch-screen LCD. This rugged pocket camera is waterproof to 16 feet, but its image quality is very disappointing.

Sleek design. Waterproof to 16 feet. Sharp, responsive touch screen.

Poor image quality. Very few physical controls.

Performance and Conclusions Very responsive, the TX20 starts and shoots in about 1.2 seconds, can fire a burst of 10 shots in a second, and records a short 0.2-second shutter lag. It runs circles around the Pentax Optio WG-2 GPS ($399.95, 3.5 stars),...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20

Style and a little bit of substance can go together in a tough camera, as long as your expectations of photo quality are not too high. The TX20 is a slimline, waterproof model that will appeal to fashionistas more so than fashion photographers.

Stylish, slimline camera ; High-resolution touchscreen ; Good video quality ; Decent image quality if you just want snapshots/web use

Surface is slippery even when dry ; Buttons might be too small for some hands ; Can't use touchscreen underwater

We like the TX20, but can't help feeling a bit disappointed that this is not the successor we would have expected, given how well its predecessor, the TX10, performed.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20 is a fun little camera to use. It's slim and easily pocketable but feels sturdy when in use. The proofing adds to its allure along with the many other features that it possesses. We like the touch-screen feature as it adds...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20

Sony misses an opportunity to perfect the casual tough-cam.

Where the TX20's performance is roughly average for this "vein" of camera, its $329 price tag is not.
