Samsung WB600

With a 15x optical zoom packed into its relatively compact body, this is a great low cost 'travel zoom'.

Good quality 15x optical zoom, Great value for money, Manual exposure controls

Slightly thicker than some rivals, Images are noisy even at low ISO, Audio drops out in video

Samsung WB600 review

Packing a 15x zoom lens, the WB600 compact camera offers seriously good value

Good manual mode ; Excellent image quality ; Super zoom lens

Not perfect ; Fiddly menu system

At first glance, the 12 megapixel Samsung WB600 doesn't look like a camera that particularly stands out from the crowd of mid-range compacts.

Samsung WB600

The humble compact camera category seems to be under assault. At the high end you have hybrid cameras offering imaging power with svelte dimensions, at the bottom end you have increasingly sophisticated camera phones. The result is a need for...

Wide zoom, shooting effects, build quality (except the mode dial is a little too easy to knock around), value for money

Noise issues, auto white balance throws out some cold images, HD video is soft, dark corners at wide angles

The Samsung WB600's performance is marred by noise issues, which seems to be the biggest technical obstacle it faces and HD fans will be disappointed with the video quality overall. It is saved, however, but virtue of being excellent value for money....

Samsung WB600 review

The WB600 is, in almost all respects, the same camera as the Samsung WB650 we reviewed a few weeks back. It has the same 15x Schneider KREUZNACH 24-360mm (35mm equivalent) 15x optical zoom lens and 14 megapixel 1/2.3in sensor, of which only the centre...

The WB600 does everything you’d expect from an ultra-zoom camera and it’s unmatched at this price.

Samsung WB600

Samsung WB600 – Front off – speaker at the front – seems a strange place for it, especially as you'll be watching the video on the screen at the back of the camera, it can make it difficult to hear the video sound. There's also a focus assist lamp, and...

Samsung WB600 Back – the back of the camera is dominated by the large 3 inch screen, thumb grooves, video record button, menu, 4-way controller, middle OK button, playback and Fn / Delete buttons
