Olympus Pen E-PL7

The next Pen update gets a selfie-obsessed screen

Great sensor performance ; Charming retro design ; Decent touchscreen

Underwhelming video capture ; Not ideal for bigger hands ; Odd tilt-under screen

We did find that the flash has a tendency to overexpose people’s faces, but flash selfies explains one of the E-PL7’s design oddities. The til screen also makes shooting below head level easier – it’s not just for the selfie crowd.

Olympus is pinning its hopes for the E-PL7 on a tilting screen and Art Filters, but its image quality promises to be good too

Respected sensor and processor combination ; Easy selfie mode ; Raw files recording possible with Art Filters

No viewfinder built-in ; No smaller than OM-D E-M10 ; Selfie mode not compatible with tripods

The E-PL7 looks like a good solid camera for those who want to travel light and don't mind not having a viewfinder. Image quality promises to be very good.

Olympus Pen E-PL7

I saw a pre-production model of this unit back in the summer. Now finally as winter grips us all the chance to review it arrives. For me a first, a removable lens camera marketed with the ability to take selfies high on its tick list.

Resolution:

The dynamic range results are very good: The camera gained a maximum of 10,9 f-stops and keeps a high level of about 10 f-stops up to ISO 3200 mode. This helps to master effortlessly even very high contrast scenes.
