Labs brief: Intel DC53427HYE NUC

We have been quite impressed by the potential of Intel's NUC concept, a tiny PC based upon its low-power Ultrabook platform, sold as a barebones system that just needs RAM, SSD and a wireless card to be added. Whereas the first generation of NUC was...

Definitely an improvement, but has a ways to go yet.

Runs Windows 8.1 with VMWare Workstation 10 runs rather well with 16Gb RAM and 120Gb mSATA with 600Gb iSCSI serving 5 VM's I like the fact that this little unit has 2x PCI (full size for mSATA and half height for other addons)

DOESN'T come with a clover leaf lead.... nothing really big but the inclusion of a £2 lead would have saved an item line

Intel NUC DC53427HYE

- It's tiny! - Great for general usage / media content and light gaming - Low power consumption - Quiet, even when CPU/GPU are being hammered - Annoys Wife if you repeatedly open/close the retail box (it plays the Intel theme)

- Little on the pricey side - Requires more expensive mSATA SSDs - HD4000 integrated GPU could use more 3D grunt - Insufficient documentation on required accessories (ie. passive or active display port adapters required? I went with 'active' to be...

Very small and compact unit but more important is that it is fast. I would differently recommend this product.

does not have the option to come with memory and msata already fitted.

Intel NUC DC53427HYE

Perfect device being used in my office, replacing the typical large towers. The device is silent. The fans only come on when rendering 3D or watching HD movies, of which it is still very capable. Running Ubuntu 13.04 with dual monitors, no problems...

I wanted to look inside the case, but you have to snap some plastic legs off to get in - feels wrong.
