Acer Aspire Revo R3600 - nVidia ION Nettop

Acer's Aspire Revo delivers HD video decoding courtesy of nVidia's ION platform. Is it a match made in heaven?

Funky design ; Affordable ; VESA mounting kit ; Poor gaming performance

Unstable plastic stand ; No IR receiver

nVidia's ION platform delivers handsomely and Acer has responded in kind with the Revo. It ticks all the right boxes where nettops are concerned, while ION gives it a definitive edge over competing offerings. Only the use of Vista really holds it back,...

Acer Aspire Revo R3600 review

Intel has missed the boat when it comes to graphics processing technology. The chip giant does make integrated processors for graphics, but they are cheap, cheerful and simple affairs, too underpowered for many modern applications.

Acer’s Aspire Revo is promising as a low-cost nettop, with better graphics performance than any conventional netbook, but it misses the mark as a quiet-running desktop companion that can comfortably play modern 3D games. You’ll also have to be careful...

Acer Aspire Revo R3600 review

The Revo is a diamond-shaped box about the size of a hardback book, and is designed to sit upright on a clear plastic stand that you clip to its base.

Small and quiet, the Revo will play HD video and has WiFi, eSATA and a card reader. If you don't need peripherals, it's great value.

Acer Revo R3600 review

The Revo is the first low cost PC that couples Intel's Atom with NVIDIA GeForce talents. Is it more than the sum of its parts?

Almost a brilliant cheap and powerful media box, but a bit too loud to love

Acer Aspire Revo : Acer Aspire Revo r3600

Not everybody needs a full featured notebook and so the netbook was developed. In the same way not everybody needs a high end desktop computer.

Adding to its impressive range of products, Acer has developed the Aspire Revo product which is based on the Intel Atom CPU 230 running at 1.60GHz. As a netbook is a king of notebook sub-species, so the Revo could be regarded as a sub-species of your...

Acer Aspire Revo R3600 Desktop PC Review

Nettops are relatively the new type of products that fill a niche up to now remaining, rather left unoccupied. They are something like barebone systems that are small and are mostly based on the intel Atom processors. Net tops have not enjoyed the same...

The Acer Aspire Revo R3600 is a winner in most of the respects. It has a great design except for the plastic stand. It is also an affordable piece of kit, when considering its flawless HD video playback. This in particular makes it a no brainer as a...

Acer Aspire Revo R3600

The Acer Aspire Revo is a "nettop" - a tiny, low powered desktop with 1 or 2GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD, plus Wi-Fi and ethernet web connectivity. Although it's powered by a lowly 1.6GHz Atom processor, NVIDIA's Ion chipset and a HDMI port means it'll...

Any problems with the Acer Aspire Revo come down to the Atom chip tucked away inside. It's measly at most things. But it's also what brings the cost down, and when it still handles video so well, you've got a bargain that David Dickinson would give up...

Acer Aspire Revo R3600

Cheap and rather stylish, the Revo's weak Atom processor is lifted by Nvidia's Ion platform.

Nvidia's Ion platform makes perfect sense here, but Atom, at least the single-core version, has no obvious place in a mains-powered nettop PC. Still, the Revo is cheaper and sexier than its nearest rival, Asus' HDMI-equipped Eee Box B206. Still too...

Acer Aspire Revo R3600 review

Is Nvidia's Ion chipset enough to give this netbook real desktop appeal? We examine the first one to come to market.

If you want a low cost desktop, then the ‘nettop’ makes a lot of sense. By using Nvidia’s Ion technology, this Acer represents the first genuinely desirable nettop, thanks to an HD-capable graphics chip.
