Panasonic HDC-HS700

Excellent low-light video quality and a broad set of manual controls make the HS700 a good camcorder, but its much better priced flash memory SD700 sibling is the one to have.

Very good low-light video quality ; Full set of manual features ; 1080/50p recording option

Smallish, low-resolution LCD ; Coarse EVF ; Some edge artifacts in video ; Middling still photo quality ; SD card only SD700 much better value

Unless you need enough capacity to record all-day sessions there's really no reason to opt for the overpriced hard-drive-based HS700; a hard drive full of video left in the camcorder is an accident waiting to happen. Especially since the SD700 is so...

Panasonic HDC-HS700

The Panasonic HDC-HS700 is a camcorder that can shoot and store hours of Full HD footage, thanks to its built-in 240GB HDD. It is also simple to use and is packed with a lot of features that can help you take that perfect shot.

Easy to use; LCD and viewfinder; Quick start-up; Manual settings; Face detection; AF/AE tracking; High-quality video; Good audio; Included software made it easy for us to transfer, edit, and burn videos; SDXC compatible

There were times when we didn’t know if a photo was shot during video mode; Some lag experienced during menu browsing; Price may put off some

Performs very well under extreme conditions. Produces excellent picture quality, even in subdued lighting conditions. Have recorded two full gigs of approx 2 hours each with no problems encountered. Unlike my Canon HG10 which continually stops...

AGC cannot be turned off in IA mode Instruction manual is very basic, especially with regard to the advanced features

Panasonic HDC-HS700

Out of this world Full HD. 11million + pixels for movie! (The deep black for example, is pretty much broadcast quality) Still Camera 14+ million Mic and Headphone Line in. Simple to Use. Side replacement of battery helpful, save messing about taking it...

If you use Final Cut Pro on an Apple, the Panasonic 1090i/50fps format needs to be converted. However get hold of Aunsofts Video Converter for Mac or their "iMedia Converter" Toast deals with this ok too. They convert AVHD with no loss of res etc to use...

Panasonic HDC-HS700

The HS700 is quite simply, a fantastic camera which produces top sound and picture quality. It's comfortable to hold, especially with the slight upward curve toward the back that makes the zoom switch and photo button easy to reach. Storage and...

One downside so far... I really dislike the placement of the connectors inside the LCD, since that means it's got to be open while you're attached to other devices, which is just kind of awkward.

Product Specifications

The HS700's high-sensitivity 3MOS system has achieved 11.49-million effective motion image pixels. This image sensor offers beautiful images with significantly better color quality, detail and gradation than the 1MOS sensor system. The large-diameter F1.5 Leica Dicomar Lens, the developed crystal engine pro, and the high-sensitivity sensors have improved the efficiency of light gathering, increased sensitivity, and reduced noise by one-half to provide users with bright, low-noise recording even in dim lighting. The 12x optical zoom lens is further enhanced by Intelligent Resolution technology in the crystal engine pro image-processing circuit, to produce the 20x intelligent zoom. The zoom achieves even greater image detail. And HS700 is also equipped with a wide-angle lens that is ideal for many different shooting situations, such as self-portraits and group photos indoors, and landscape shots outdoors.
