Unibrain Fire-i (PC) review: Unibrain Fire-i (PC)

Unibrain Fire-i (PC)

Smooth video; easy-to-use focus; in-use light.

Clunky design; lacks tripod mount; no external power supply included.

The Fire-i offers camcorder-quality video at a Webcam price, but it's not for beginners.

Unibrain Fire-i Digital Camera

This camera was used as part of a Reactable for which it did the job perfectly well.

You can only buy it from Microwarehouse in the U.K.

DOA

The cardboard box was nice. Even brown all the way around

DOA out of the box. No Spin. Had to pay return shipping. The price dropped 30 bucks 3 days after order

Reliable webcam

Some apps don't seem to take advantage of the cam's full bandwith (Skype, GTalk) and seem a little laggy. For other apps (Photobooth on Mac) that can - the cam has quite excellent response.

I bought this cam because I needed something that would reliably work with Mac, Linux and Windows and this does easily (though this is mostly thanks to Firewire IIDC). I telecommute cross-country and occasionally need to do video chat ; Manual focus...

No mic - this is the only reason I knock a star/egg ; I keep the cam and tripod on a slick desk and the (somewhat stiff) firewire cable can skew the tripod ; No monitor clip ( I could maybe tape/rig the tripod to the back - but it certainly wouldn't be...

Firei webcam

Good quality of video that the other party is receiving

expensive and the software that came with the unit does not work have to download another software to make it work and not stall

Cool Web Cam

What a neat web cam! Can use that for video chat with ASL Sign Langange

Working well and dont need a software for that. Windows XP got it by auto.. Did tested with that on Skype.com. It did pretty good. The video was very clear

good with max/msp/jitter

bought the item, because it was recommanded many times on the max/msp/jitter-list for a low cost/ high efficiency solution for interactive work.my tests so far confirmed that. can output uncompressed video, so takes some load off the processor.
