Trendnet TV-IP400W

The cheapest pan/tilt/zoom IP camera we've ever reviewed, and you can tell.

One area that the TV-IP400W is particularly lacking in is audio because, well, it doesn't have any, so you can only monitor visual goings on. Also it doesn't have any external triggering I/O ports so you cannot set off an alarm when motion is detected...

Email NOT stand alone..

O.K. picture and as represented with one glaring exception

The motion sensing will send an email only if the program is running on a pc connected to the camera. It makes no sense that a stand alone camera accessible from the internet cannot send an email when motion is detected unless a pc is awake and...

TRENDnet TV-IP400W 640x480,320x240,160x120 Wireless Camera - Retail

Remote, pan/tilt

Video quality SUCKS ! Not much better than my 10 yr old low res cam. Focus adjustmant is ok IF you have super tiny fingers. Digital zoom is useless

Port F F Forwarding

If you have Verizon FIOS use port 9100

Bought this to keep an eye on my elderly mother while I'm at work. For me it works excellent. If you want a better picture - you need to spend some more money

Lack of documentation on port forwarding. The only issue I had was setting up port forwarding in Verizon's router - that took a week and many headaches to figure out

Nice Camera Overall

I cant criticize much about the camera. People who complaign need to spend a lot more money to satisfy their complaints. I bought a Go

Nice Camera resolution of 640x480 is adequate unless yo want to pay more money to look at rich detail. It would be nice for an optical zoom feature, but low cost is low cost.

comes with a funky mounting bracket without any documentation anywhere. Most all "blue" trendnet cameras comes with a standard screw mount that all hand held cameras have. I dont know what it is called, but it fits all tripods, mounting brackets etc....

Works as Advertised

As mentioned in another review, the Pan/Tilt presets work, but you must be logged in as the Administrator user.

Setup and running with in 10 minutes of opening the package. I worked out the wireless setting kinks with my IP100W camera. The Swing function is pretty cool! It covers quite a bit of ground. I ordered another one!

Base of camera is pretty big so, you will need a lot of space for placement. Low light pictures are not great.

TRENDnet TV-IP400W 640x480,320x240,160x120 Wireless Camera - Retail

Overall, it's a mediocre camera, but I give it high marks for Mac and Linux support. It's great for checking up on the cat or the weather, but don't expect to be able to resolve many details in the image nor capture great video with it.

Works with Macs & Linux in Java mode (though it required a firmware upgrade out of the box for this to work)! Pan/tilt range is nice. Setup was relatively easy. Picture quality is not as bad as one would think... Presets work fine. Works with EvoCam.

Digital zoom is worthless. Sustainable frame-rates are rather low, even for smaller image sizes. As the bandwidth usage goes up, the responsiveness of the camera drops significantly (i.e. ability to pan/tilt). Low light handling is mediocre at best....

Not Terrible, Not Great Either

Keep in mind that this/most network cameras are 0.3 megapixel. At that resolution, a good image isn't good enough to even make a decent screensaver image, so don't expect a lot out of any of these cameras.

At least using IE, most essential features work. Provided you start with a wired connection, it is easy to configure for wireless. Key-based WPA encryption was very easy to set up.

This camera on a wired connection gives a poorer quality image than their cheaper TV-IP100. It is even worse on a very strong wireless-G connection. Very disappointing performance. I already had four TV-IP100s (great for the price) and assumed the...
