Video quality is good

Microphone poor

At £20 it’s not going to break the bank if you aren’t happy with the performance once you get it out of the box. The colour balance and video capabilities against the MacBook Pro's built-in camera is better, shame the sound isn't.

IceCam2 review

 

Respectable picture quality and good software support help the IceCam2 stand out.

Good value, stylish, Mac-friendly design, easy to set up and operate, lens focus can be manually adjusted

It can only run with one conferencing app at a time, image quality controls are limited to focus ring on lens

Still, this is streets ahead of the older model, offering respectable picture quality and a much more durable construction.

Macally IceCam 2

 

Macally's IceCam 2 is a USB 2 webcam that looks rather like a white, one-eyed head and shoulders image of Pixar's Wall-E. It's also a very decent webcam for anyone who doesn't have an iSight on their Mac

This wouldn't be an issue if you could opt to use the camera for video and choose another device for audio, but the IceCam 2 is identified as one device, so you have to use it for both or not at all. That limits its appeal if you need better audio...

Petite and versatilve hub

Light weight. Mount it vertically, horizontally, or magnetically. Excellent travel accessory

Provide power for up to 3 devices. Only 2 FireWire ports, but one must be connected to the computer. Could use another FireWire port

Macally IceCam 2

 

Small and neat and very good looking. Very versatile and can sit anywhere, light-weight, mobile and the long lead is very useful. Extremely easy to install - just plug and play.

Can't adjust the picture in any way apart from focus, but since it's a pretty good picture anyway it's not really a problem.

Cheap. Mac compliant out of the box. Easy install. Works every time.

Pretty fuzzy picture quality. Flexible metal arm is not long enough - camera has to sit across front of screen rather than above and behind.
