Great picture, friendly packaging, no Windows driver needed

Since I've only seen two webcams in action, I don't have a lot of experience with them, but the Logitech Quickcam 3000 has worked great for us. No needed driver, easy-to-open (and recyclable!) packaging, and a great picture make this a great purchase.

I must admit that this is my first webcam purchase. I bought a number of them for our company. What's great about this webcam is that it's truly plug-and-play. I didn't need to install the bundled software, which I prefer not to do in a business...

The only con I can find is that it's a little hard to move the manual focus ring with one hand since the surface is tapered. I have to hold the webcam in one hand and twist the focus ring with the other. This is a very petty issue though

Haven't been able to get the integrated mic working yet, but apparently it's possible with the snd-usb-audio module.

Works in Linux, pretty good quality

EZ Hookup and install

Installed without problems on Win7 and Ubuntu 9.04. You don't need the driver CD at all. Nice mount too! It fit on my laptop and all my other screens

Logitech QuickCam 3000 USB 2.0 Webcam for Business

Why wasn't UVC created ten years earlier?

UVC-compliant; doesn't require a device-specific driver for most operating systems now. Camera and microphone work under Linux. Comes with a monitor clip base and a second base for mounting to a tripod. Video quality is decent considering the price,...

Video is a bit grainy and blurry with motion, doesn't maintain full framerate under low lighting (I think it increases the exposure time to keep good image brihtness) ; Sound doesn't work at full capture volume, I had to turn it down slightly to hear...
