Vizio VF551XVT

With the Vizio VF551XVT you get a large LED-backlit HDTV for a very nice price.

Very attractive price for a large-screen, LED-backlit LCD HDTV. 240MHz technology reduces motion blur. Accurate colors. Robust port selection. Low power consumption.

Uninspired design. Narrow viewing-angle performance. Some noticeable artifacts in 1080p content.

Vizio VF551XVT review: Vizio VF551XVT

Vizio VF551XVT

Inexpensive for a local dimming LED-based LCD; can produce extremely deep black levels; less blooming than many local dimming models; relatively accurate color; solid dejudder processing; plenty of connectivity with five HDMI and one PC input; energy...

Backlight fluctuates with program content; below-average shadow detail; fewer picture controls than some high-end HDTVs; ho-hum styling.

Sure, it has a few flaws, but nothing fatal prevents the local dimming, LED-backlit Vizio VF551XVT from exhibiting excellent LCD picture quality for the buck.

Vizio VF551XVT LED LCD Television Review

Vizio seems to really be getting the hang of LED backlighting technology. The VF551XVT, has a very consistent brightness uniformity – something that is lacking in many of the new edge-lit displays.

Deep blacks ; Effective remote control ; Great value ; 240Hz mode is improving

Limited user calibration options ; Remote lacks discrete inputs ; Only 1 component video input on rear of set

VIZIO VF551XVT 55″ LCD LED HDTV

VIZIO has introduced a 55" (diagonal) LCD HDTV (1080p) that uses 960 LEDs in 80 control blocks as the backlighting. The control blocks change their brightness according to the brightness of the part of the scene that they responsible for illuminating....

With LED backlighting, the superiority of plasma in terms of black levels no longer is valid. Off-axis viewing with a plasma is still betterr, but in general, I think most people sit in front of the TV when they are watching.

Vizio VF551XVT LCD HDTV First Impressions Review - Intro

The flagship model in their 2009 lineup, the Vizio VF551XVT is a 55-inch LCD screen that's the first from the company to use LED backlights instead of fluorescent lights. This allows the VF551XVT1A to do a neat trick called local dimming, the display...

Vizio has a reputation for producing good value televisions, and the VF551XVT looks like it will probably continue the trend. We'll have to reserve judgment until we get the display into our labs for testing, but it looks like this display has the...

Vizio VF551XVT LCD HDTV

At the 2009 CES, Vizio took the wraps off of its first LCD HDTV with LED backlighting and local dimming, which consumers have been eagerly waiting for ever since. At $2,200, the VF551XVT is the least expensive 55-inch local-dimming LCD available, which...

Vizio VF551XVT LED LCD HDTV Reviewed

Vizio has introduced its first full-array LED-based LCD, with local dimming to produce deeper blacks than a traditional LCD. Check out Adrienne Maxwell's hands-on review of this 55-inch, 1080p TV, which also sports Vizio's 240Hz SPS technology and five...

In addition to improved black-level reproduction, local-dimming LED technology can also improve an LCD's ability to reveal fine black details and subtle, complex shading--common weaknesses in a traditional CCFL LCD. In this respect, the VF551XVT comes...

All in all, I'm very impressed with the VF551XVT's performance. It doesn't have the refinement I've seen from the best higher-end panels, but its picture quality is really quite good. It's an excellent all-purpose TV, well suited for sports during the...

Vizio VF551XVT LCD HDTV with LED Backlighting (Playback 25)

Clearly, Vizio has accomplished a lot in a relatively short period of time, firmly establishing themselves as the value brand leader in the hotly competitive HDTV LCD flat panel business. The recent debut of their first local dimming LED backlit LCD...

Just a few years ago, $2,200 would have been barely enough for a much smaller sized 720p LCD HDTV. That you can now get a much larger 55-inch 1080p set with most of the high end trimmings at that price is testament to Vizio's leadership in the value...
