Vizio P50 HDM

Cheap plasma panel

Low price, easy to set up

No NTSC or ATSC tuner, image quality could be better

Vizio's 50-inch P50 HDM plasma HDTV monitor doesn't require the same cash outlay as a full-fledged plasma HDTV. However, you might be able to find products at a similar price point that deliver better picture.

Vizio P50HD review: Vizio P50HD

Review summary Editors' note: We have not reviewed this model, but according to Vizio, it is almost identical to the P50HDM . The only differences are that the P50HDTV includes an HDTV tuner and that it's slightly more expensive. Otherwise, the...

Relatively inexpensive; impressive black-level performance; video processing includes 2:3 pull-down decoding; accurate color decoding; two HDMI inputs.

False-contouring artifacts; noisy fan; lacks a CableCard.

With commendable image quality and plenty of connections, the relatively inexpensive Vizio P50HDTV 50-inch plasma is the best value in its class.

Vizio P50 HDM

The first thing to understand about the Vizio 50-inch P50 HDM is that it's a plasma HD monitor, not a full-fledged plasma HDTV. This means that it forgos an analog NTSC tuner and a digital ATSC tuner, instead requiring an external tuner to display any...

Low price Easy to set up

Vizio's 50-inch P50 HDM plasma HDTV monitor doesn't require the same cash outlay as a full-fledged plasma HDTV. However, if you're on a budget and don't mind messing with external tuners, check out Maxent's MX-50X3. Like the Vizio, the Maxent 50-inch...

Vizio P50 HDM

Screen Size (Diagonal): 50 inches, Supported EDTV and HDTV Resolutions: 480i, Supported EDTV and HDTV Resolutions: ...

Excellent value. Good image quality with standard and high-definition video. Clean, easy-to-navigate menu system.

Slight banding artifact (false contouring) in dark scenes. Some scaling issues with 1080i video sources.

The Vizio P50 HDM is the least expensive 50-inch plasma display I've seen to date, and I came away impressed by its good overall picture quality and selection of A/V inputs. Although not perfect, its few flaws are easier to accept knowing that it's an ama

Vizio VP50HDTV 50" Plasma TV

Vizio has quickly established a reputation for outrageous flat-panel bargains at big-box retailers such as Costco and Sam's Club. At the same time, many of its products offer some serious bang for very few bucks. At a list price of only $1500, the...

It may seem that I’m being hard on the VP50HDTV, but in the context of its ridiculously low list price of $1500 (half the price of the most expensive plasma in this survey), the drawbacks are relatively minor, and its less-than-perfect performance can...

Vizio JV50P Review – 50-inch Plasma HDTV

In the tests we conducted, the image quality of the JV50P remained excellent throughout – it is comparable to most mid-priced plasmas. We didn't encounter any signs of ghosting, and the wide viewing angle ensured that picture remained saturated. It...
