Sony KD-65X9005B

Editor's Choice: Sony sets a new standard for 4K TVs

Spectacular 2D picture quality ; Best audio ever heard from a flat TV ; Great value by 4K standards ; Supports 4K Netflix streams ; HDMI 2.0 supported

3D not as good as 2D ; No 4OD or ITV Player ; Dynamic Contrast engine can go too far with some presets

Also, slightly ironically given the comments we made about the Cinema 2 mode earlier, we feel you might prefer to use the Cinema 1 preset for watching at least those films that have a lot of dark content. Again, we’ll cover our reasons for saying this...

Sony KD-65X9005B review

The wedge-shaped Sony KD-65X9005B category-defining Ultra HD Smart TV

Bold wedge design ; Superb image performance ; Stereo magnetic fluid speakers

Limited catch-up TV services ; Distracting Twitter app ; It's huge!

Sony KD-65X9005B review

Sony's sensational wedge TV delivers top 4K results

Sensational image quality ; Best in class audio performance ; Discovery bar content guide ; Distinctive wedge design

Flickery Active Shutter 3D ; Lacks key catch-up services ; Distracting social view function ; It's huge

Sony's X9005B is currently the big UHD TV to beat right now. Awesome image quality, hi-fi grade sound and stylish design put this premium panel at the front of the 4K pack.

Sony KD-65X9005B

The Sony TV has its issues with upscaled content, but it's a gorgeous set that looks great in 4K

Subtle and natural colours ; Crisp, bright picture ; Superb 4K detail ; Rich, open and detailed sound quality ; Smart features and interface are intuitive ; Stylish finish and excellent build quality ; Easy to use ; Latest 4K tech

DVD and standard definition could be better ; Blacks could go deeper ; Slight graininess on upscaled picture ; Motion could be smoother ; Touchpad remote feels cheap and unintuitive ; Lack of 4K content

There’s plenty we like about the Sony KD-65X9005B, from its stylish build to its intuitive smart features.

Sony KD-65X9005B review

Whatever angle you take, Sony's KD-65X9005B is a formidable 4K proposition. With its mould-breaking design, pixel-pushing picture processing and audiophile pretensions, it sees Sony's TV division at its most confident in years.

Superb image definition; deep blacks and great dynamic range; excellent audio performance; dramatic design; One-flick Discovery bar user interface

Active Shutter 3D at its best only in a dark room; not a full compliment of catch-up

Sony KD-65X9005B 65-inch 4K TV review

The future of TV is 4K, and judging by Sony's latest X9005B telly it's already arrived. In addition to finally becoming more realistically affordable, proper 4K content is now available from Netflix. And it's amazing. If you're thinking about upgrading...

Stunning colours with true blacks, brilliant 4K upscaling, fantastic sound, beautiful wedge design, genuinely intelligent smart features, really easy to use

Speaker design might not suit all, new onscreen Social View Twitter app is somewhat antisocial, 3D isn't perfect - but who wants that anyway?

If you're thinking about upgrading your TV and taking the 4K plunge then you'd be hard pressed to find anything nearly as good as the Sony X9005B.

Sony KD-65X9005B 4K smart TV review

For this second iteration, the Sony KD-65X9005B, Sony has similarly snubbed cookie-cutter flatness, using its new signature wedge cabinet to enhance audio. The result is unquestionably the best sounding flatscreen we've ever heard.

Overall, the KD-65X8005B is a barnstormer of a 4K bigscreen television. We've seen some great Ultra HD performers this year, but none are so comprehensively satisfying as this new X9, and our caveats remain minor. From design to AV performance, the...

Sony Bravia KD-65X9005B review: Ugly design, but beautiful pictures

Sony's Bravia KD-65X9005B shows that despite the Japanese brand's well documented troubles, it can still churn out very good high-end TVs.

Pictures are top class due to their excellent contrasts, warm colours and deep black levels. The set also produces wonderfully full-bodied sound from its massive speakers.

The smart TV system lacks apps for 4oD and ITV Player, and although the speakers sound great, they make the TV very chunky. Its 3D performance is also a letdown as it suffers from some crosstalk.

Sony's KD-65X9005B produces really stunning picture quality, not just with UltraHD video, but also with Blu-rays and HD broadcasts. Its sound quality is top notch too thanks to its meaty speakers. The chunky design, 3D performance and smart TV system...
