Sony KD-65X8505C

The Sony KD-65X8505C is the considerably more manageable and affordable 65in 4K UHD alternative to Sony's mammoth KD-75X9405C. It achieves this greater mass-market appeal predominantly by doing away with the front-firing, magnetic fluid-using speaker...

Mostly excellent picture quality ; Good connectivity ; Fair value

Backlight "flaring ; Slight luminance loss in the image's corners ; Android TV slows it down

Sony KD-55X8505

Sony's 'entry level' 4K TV falls short of its flagship sibling

Pictures sometimes look sublime, Space-saving design, Good price for a well-specced 4K TV

Significant contrast shortcomings, Missing a few key video streaming services, 3D looks a little soft

Sony KD-65X8505C review

This big-screen Sony TV packs in a lot of tech and delivers a good picture...

Lovely colours ; Good sharpness ; Well specified

Needs stronger contrast ; Android TV needs work

Not perfect, but a commendable stab at affordable 4K

Sony KD-65X8505C review

Nice picture, fair price, messy smarts

Excellent contrast and colour ; Very sharp 4K/HD pictures ; Skinny frame design ; Good connectivity

Clumsy adaptive contrast ; Over-eager upscaling engine ; Android TV is marmite ; Uninspiring 3D

The 65X8505C is far from perfect. A couple of surprising - given the Sony branding - backlight and excessive sharpness issues together with merely average audio performance, uninspiring 3D and a currently cumbersome Android TV smart system take some of...

Sony KD-55X8505B

Sharp picture across the board, Lovely colours, Plenty of subtlety

Blacks could be better, Smart interface is not as comprehensive as rivals

Sony shows that you don’t need to pay a fortune to get a good 4K TV

Sony KD-55X8505C review

The 55in KD-55X8505C is the honey trap for Sony's 2015 4K UHD models. Priced considerably below the ultra-slim X90C and the hi-res audio-capable X93C/X94C behemoths, this is UHD for the brand-buying mainstream.

Outstanding 4K clarity; great HD upscaling; integrated YouView platform with rollback catch-up TV on the way

Average audio; Android Smart TV platform is a chore; no HDR support

That said, picture quality on the X85C is superior to that of the much more expensive, ultra-thin X90C. Its images are punchier, boosted by a superior black level performance. So core Sony AV values remain strong, but with strong competition,...

Sony KD-55X8505C review

It might not be a budget option but the Sony X8505C is one of the firm's more affordable 4K TVs and comes with Android.

This UHD screen is quite the charmer. It's well specified, with a strong connected proposition thanks to that integrated YouView roll-back EPG, and image quality is spectacular – in fact it performs better than the slimmer, more expensive X90C. All...

Sony X85C review

X85C is a new mid-range 4K TV from Sony, and one of the first TVs with

Good picture quality & homogeneity ; Android TV with Chromecast has clear potential ; Fair input lag ; Good motion resolution with MotionFlow activated

Android TV is still buggy and slow ; Out-of-box settings ; Mediocre speakers ; Remote controls ; Backlight lights up in left/right sides sometimes
