Sony Bravia KDL52Z5500 review

It's the successor to the Sony Bravia KDL52Z5500, with a new video processor and improved multimedia playback. The TV gives you a lot of control over motion control and picture quality, and its media streaming and minimalist design make it a great...

The Sony Bravia KDL52Z5500 is a good all-round LCD television. Its CCFL backlight means it may not be as technologically advanced as Samsung’s LED TV models, but the implementation of MotionFlow 200Hz and its vibrant image quality make the package just...

Sony Bravia KDL52Z5500 LCD television

Sony's second-generation 200Hz LCD television offers a smooth and vibrant picture

Good motion smoothing, minimal design

No LED technology, expensive

We'd go so far as to say that the Sony Bravia KDL52Z5500 is the current pinnacle of (non-LED) LCD television technology. Good, natural-looking motion smoothing and a vibrant colour palette make for a television that's very enjoyable to watch.

Sony KDL-52Z5500

Lovely image, quiet, cool. Relatively light, good connectivity. Very slim. Excellent for motion artifacts. The notorious backlight "bleeding" is very good on this particular unit. Image quality from BD or HD is superb, and on SD is good enough to view...

Sometimes will not respond to the remote, have to "initialise" using the direct controls. Audio is rubbish, I suspect it won't be long before large, slim displays like this don't include audio at all. Off axis viewing limited but acceptable. I'm not...

Sony KDL-52Z5500

Very good with SD content , but it's when HD/Blu ray content are played, this Sony really has class leading pictures! I previously owned a Pioneer 506 xde and i have to say the Sony leaves it standing in the HD department. Colours are vibrant & natural...

Slight colour lag with picture noise in some dark SD scenes. Takes a fair amount of set up time to achieve the best picture results. Poor viewing angle & the sound could be far better for its size. Some back light issues.

High quality sound and picture, especially HD, east of use

On screen settings / options menu a little hard to follow

Sony KDL-52Z5500

Great Tv, easy to set up, clear instructions. Bravia sync is a great addition as all my Sony items link together under one control. Could not say that I have noticed the differance between my 100hz tv and the new sony bravia 200hz but as it is so...

The sound is a bit suspect in a large room we had to have it on almost max to be able to hear properly. this problem was cured by the addition of a sound system, but of course more expence.

Sony KDL-52Z5500

Excellent design - but that's typical Sony. This is a big television so needs quite a bit of space but it's a triumph of the design that it does not swamp the space in a 4m x 6m room. Excellent picture quality, great sound from built in speakers. The...

Haven't found any bad points yet
