Sony KDL-37EX524

Sony's KDL-37EX524 does rather more in feature and performance terms than you might expect for its money.

Decent value ; Excellent online services ; Mostly good picture quality

Motion blur ; Best picture settings lack brightness ; Operating system needs work

We should add that Sony’s online features also include Facebook, Twitter, Skype (if you add an optional camera), and an open Web browser. Though the text on this browser is so small that it makes the feature all but unusable in our opinion.

Sony KDL-32EX524

Although it's no classic, Sony's entry-level 32in LED TV combines solid pictures with excellent multimedia skills to enjoyable effect.

Good value ; Class-leading online service ; Good all-round picture quality

Operating system not great ; Minor motion blur ; Not the brightest picture

Minor motion blur and a slight lack of brightness once it’s been set up to produce its best contrast performance stop the 32EX524 from being a total star. But it’s certainly worth adding to any affordable 32in audition list, especially if you're...

Sony's puts net connectivity first with affordable 2D LED

Sony KDL-37EX524 review

The fast-disappearing 37-inch category gets a shot in the arm courtesy of this Sony model

Good price ; Mostly excellent 'smart TV' features ; Superb black levels for an edge LED TV

Resolution loss with motion ; Images aren't especially bright by edge LED standards ; The set's build quality isn't the best

Not so long ago, 37-inch TVs were the most popular size in Britain. In 2011, though, they seem to be a dying breed, with fewer and fewer models finding their way into TV ranges. Sony, for instance, only has two 37-inch TVs in its latest range,...

Sony KDL-40EX524 review

You'll get top-notch 2D from this great-value Sony KDL-40EX524

Internet TV and Qriocity service ; natural colours ; clean images ; excellent HD tuner

No 3D ; motion could be better ; off-axis viewing isn’t perfect

Solid performance at a decent price – but you don’t have to look far to get more

Sony KDL-32EX524 review

Style and excellent internet TV features are among the strengths of the Sony KDL-32EX524

Intuitive interface ; plenty of features ; Qriocity library is ace ; subtle, detailed pictures

Struggles to deliver punchy colours ; dark scenes are too gloomy

Good but not great, this Sony’s picture lacks sparkle compared with the best

Sony KDL-32EX524 review

Don't let the size or price fool you – this TV is packed with clever features and delivers decent pictures

Lots of features ; Revamped onscreen menus ; Freeview HD ; Excellent web video quality ; USB recording ; Skype and smartphone control

Motion blur ; Pricey peripherals ; Contrast could be better ; Slightly plasticky build ; Couldn't stream music

Sony's KDL-32EX524 is described as a 'great all-rounder' and 'family friendly'. This is normally a euphemistic way of saying that there aren't many flashy features on board – but that's not the case with this impressively specified little TV.

Sony KDL-40EX524 review

If net connectivity is this year's hot TV ticket, Sony's affordable EX-range is smokin'

Feature-rich BRAVIA Internet Video portal ; Design ; USB recording ; New user interface

Poor motion picture resolution ; No support for MKV files

Sony KDL-40EX524 review

Sony was an early exponent of net-connected TV. While its rivals were fumbling through the adolescent stages of internet connectivity, the Japanese major already had a mature IPTV portal on the go in the shape of its BRAVIA Internet Video (BIV) service.

Feature-rich BRAVIA Internet Video portal; design; USB recording; new user interface

Poor motion picture resolution; no support for MKV files

Sony KDL-37EX524

Another measured attempt by Sony, this time in the increasingly rare, but popular with consumers, 37-inch size. It sits slap bang in the middle of the company's impressive, and popular, Essential EX range. Great for movies though lacking the brightness...

BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm & Demand 5, Freeview HD, excellent EPG, good upscaling, iPhone app, black levels

Long-winded GUI, Wi-Fi is a pricey add-on, lacks Full HD detail, some motion blur

Great for movies though lacking the brightness of rival brands' Edge LED-backlit offerings, Sony's 37-incher piles on the features. A lush Freeview HD treatment, awesome online goodies, and a nice price are set against some onscreen blur, and a lack of...
