Sharp LC-46LE821 review

This 46 inch set is a great big-screen LCD, and the vibrant colour palette is lovely

Crisp, vibrant pictures from all sources ; great looks and slim profile ; fine features

Some backlight unevenness ; short of the best with motion

Is extra yellow as good as an extra dimension? Perhaps not, but that doesn’t stop the Quattron being a fine TV

Sharp LE820

Sharp unveiled their 2010 line-up on CES 2010 and one of the new things was the Quattron / Quad Pixel technology. Sharp has added yellow to the pixel structure which should mean better color reproduction according to Sharp. The LE820 is a step down...

Picture quality; Black levels; Shadow details; Response time and 100 Hz; Time Shift recording; Inputs facing to the side

Green/yellow push; Not perfect viewing angles; Reflections; No DLNA support for video; Standard picture settings

With LE820 Sharp has really put some thought into designing a TV and has ended up with a very complete TV. The glass frame feels nice, and the back of the frame reveals that all inputs are cleverly positioned. Also, the remote has gotten a facelift and...

Review: Sharp Quattron LED LE821E Series

The new Sharp Quattron is one the new breed of ultra-thin LED's that has hit the market recently and boy is it stunning. However it's more than a pretty face too, with networking, next-gen picture processing and Freeview HD tucked away inside it...

Sharp Aquos LC-46LE820E Quad-Pixel TV review

To remind us exactly who it was that invented the LCD way back in 1973, Sharp has given the dominant TV technology a radical new twist. Its latest X-Gen panels add a fourth sub pixel, yellow, to the traditional RGB display. With four colours to play...

The fourth colour means a smoother and more natural palette. Recording from the Freeview HD tuner onto the internal memory is a bonus. Excellent build quality

There’s a premium to pay for the new technology. Direct, rather than edge LED backlighting would have been preferable

Sharp LC52LE820X LED television

Sharp LC52LE820X review: An LED television with Quattron technology.

Excellent black levels and contrast levels

The extra yellow sub-pixel makes some colours look unnatural, reflective panel, no IPTV via Ethernet, no 3D support

The Sharp Quattron LC52LE820X is a great TV when it comes to contrast, black levels and displaying fine image detail, but its colour needs some tweaking. We're disappointed by its lack of extra features like 3D and IPTV, though.

Sharp LC-60LE820UN 60-Inch LCD TV

(Editor's note: This review of the Sharp 820UN series is based on our hands-on testing and evaluation of the 52-inch 52LE820UN. According to the manufacturer, the image quality and features should be equivalent for each TV in this model line.)

Good documentation ; Energy-efficient set ; Above-average audio ; Decent image quality

Odd port placement ; User interface feels cluttered ; Pricey for its screen size and feature set

The Sharp Aquos 820UN Series offers good image quality, above-average audio, and energy efficiency, but its Internet and other features aren't the greatest, its design has serious shortcomings, and it is pricey for its screen-size class.

Sharp LC-52LE820UN 52-Inch LCD TV

Sharp has been touting its Quattron quad-pixel technology (which adds yellow pixels to the usual red/blue/green array), so we were eager to see how its image quality would fare in our juried tests of the Aquos LC-52LE820UN, a 52-inch, LED-backlit LCD...

Sharp Aquos LC-52LE820UN (Quattron)

With its Quattron line, Sharp is the first HDTV manufacturer to add a fourth color to the traditional RGB filter, but those yellow pixels don't come cheap.

Unique, attractive design. Clean HD and SD performance. Bright colors. Energy efficient.

Expensive. Narrow viewing angles. Fewer Web apps than the competition. Unsteady stand.

Sharp Quattron LC46LE820X

While there's a lot to like about the Sharp Quattron LC46LE820X, the colour palette afforded by the addition of a yellow pixel is more neon than natural.

Punchy, vivid images ; Four HDMI ports with ARC ; Modern styling

but "me-too" looking ; Unnatural colours ; Quite reflective

Even so, we'd suggest users look instead to less hyperactive technologies from the likes of Panasonic (in the case of plasma) and Sony (for LCD). You will probably end up paying more but the resulting picture will be entirely more pleasing.
