Samsung PS-50P96FD 50in Plasma TV

Samsung brings a 50in Full HD plasma in at a truly staggering price.

So a run of little niggles at the end of our review prove that the 50P96FD isn't perfect. Big bloody deal. Yes, its black levels might not be as good as Pioneer's, and yes, its colour palette might not always look quite as natural as Panasonic's. But...

Samsung PS-50P96FD review

This TV is a fanfare for the common man – affordable 50in Full HD plasma luxury

Great value ; Excellent black levels ; Fantastic HD pictures ; Generous connectivity

Lacklustre audio ; Some motion blur

Once again Samsung rewrites the value rulebook with this superb Full HD plasma

Samsung PS50P96FD review

Full HD plasmas needn't cost the Earth, as this 1080p TV joyously demonstrates

Vibrant colours ; Highly detailed hi-def pictures ; Excellent black levels

Reds can appear slightly orangey ; Poor audio ; Some motion blur

Again, Samsung rewrites the value rulebook with this Full HD beauty

Samsung PS-50P96FD review

Sony and Panasonic might dominate the current flatscreen TV market, but Korean giant Samsung has gems like this in its range

No longer just a budget option, this Samsung is easily good enough to justify the price tag

Samsung PS50P96

Superb HD pictures are compromised by average SD performance ..

Retailing for around £1500 and sporting some impressive high end features, Samsung have produced a compelling package. While this set cannot match the best 50in Plasma's out there, it comes close, especially if you focus on HD. As the centrepiece of a...

Samsung PS50P96FDX Review: 50" 1080p Full HD Plasma TV Test

But building a 1080p plasma TV is not just a straightforward case of replacing existing 720p panel with one of higher resolution; the entire circuitry has to be redesigned from scratch to adequately drive the panel while minimising processing...

Excellent shadow detail and black level ; Outstanding primary and secondary colour chromaticities ; Accepts 1080p/24 from PS3 with considerable reduction in judder ; Detailed picture when 1:1 pixel-mapped for 1920x1080 ; Easy to achieve near-D65...

Intermittent stutter when watching Freeview using internal tuner ; Noticeable dynamic false contouring especially with poor source ; More motion blurring compared to top-tier plasmas ; Inflexible film mode deinterlacing – [Movie Plus] is needed for 3:2...

Constructing a 1080p plasma is not as easy as it sounds: existing subfield distribution has to be scrapped, and more advanced motion compensation algorithm needs to be devised to adequately drive the panel while keeping motion artifacts to a minimum....

Samsung PS-58 P96 FD

Impressively rich HD pictures., Excellent TV-tuner pictures., Judder-free 24p

Limited daylight-suitability., Only HDMI-RGB signals give perfect colours., Grey side bars on 4:3 pictures

With two years under its belt, the PS-58 P96 FD ought to be lagging behind. Well, think again — its 24p reproduction is excellent, which is more than you can say for a lot of current models. You also get Full HD resolution and three HDMI inputs, not to...

Samsung PS50P96FD

Great black lacq design with integrated speakers on the side. Amazing colours and image quality is stunning Easy to set up and very intuitive command.

Image could be more precise when quick moving sometimes see some light blur effects around fast moving objects in a movie but not disturbing.
