Samsung LE55A956 55in LCD TV

Samsung combines LED backlighting and a range of nifty features with great effect in this big 55in LCD TV.

While its various little picture niggles open the door for other upcoming LED models to potentially outperform the LE55A956, right now the problems don't do enough to stop me feeling as if I've just spent quality time with not only a great picture...

Samsung LE55A956D review

With its Series 9 sets, Samsung claims to have taken LCD TV technology to another level

Black level ; Crisp and detailed HD images ; WISELINK Pro-DLNA is an exceptional addition

Mighty footprint in bezel and depth terms ; Pictures need tweaking ; SD pictures can look flat

A gorgeous TV with some truly inspirational features

Samsung LE55A956

Not everyone has the room or money to accommodate this monstrous 55-inch TV, but it still delivers a fine big-screen picture

Great design and styling ; feature-packed ; excellent black reproduction ; superb Blu-ray picture

On-screen noise infiltrates DVD and Freeview pictures ; colours can be tricky to balance

Samsung LE46A956 LCD TV

It begins with a dream, a quest for the finest of products, and ends with one giant leap in technology. And here it is, in your living room, where there once stood a Palaeolithic, cumbersome and ungainly box. The contrast is staggering. There is little...

The original settings are well-balanced and thanks to Info Live, you can connect to the internet in real time through an ADSL

The design is essential, linear, perhaps too anonymous. They could definitely have cranked it up a notch

Samsung LE55A956

The LE55A956's extravagant looks are joined by an extensive feature count. Connections, for instance, include an impressive four HDMIs, a USB port and an Ethernet jack. What's more, the LE55A956's Ethernet jack goes a considerable step further than the...

Terrific black levels, rich colours, stunning design, decent audio, great connectivity, good price for such a large LED screen

Blooming/halo effect around bright picture elements, limited viewing angle, occasional colour tone/blend issues

Samsung LE55A956

A technological tour de force which points the way forward for LCD TV technology ..

A tour de force of innovative and more importantly useable technology which works. With the LE55A956 Samsung has produced an LCD which is not perfect but which in many respects is quite remarkable.

Samsung LE55A956

More proof of why LED technology could just be the future of TV

A sight for sore eyes / Outstanding pictures / Huge feature count / Sounds good

Viewing angle problems / Occasional blooming / Image delay and reflection / Wireless set-up issues

Actually, it’s not just the design that seems out to distract you from just watching the LE55A956. For included among the connections, alongside a very healthy four HDMIs, are two key multimedia ports: a USB jack and an Ethernet input

Samsung LE55A956 Review

At a time when other big brands like Sony and Philips were scampering to jump on the LED backlight bandwagon, Samsung was already readying its second generation for public consumption, having been the first electronics manufacturer to release an...

Smart LED] allows for exemplary blacks (and even true 0 cd/m2 blacks when the screen is blank) ; Improved LED backlighting algorithm (less flaring and virtually no black level fluctuation) ; Comprehensive array of picture adjustment controls available...

Average standard-def upscaling ; Input lag of 30 to 60ms may affect sensitive gamers ; Limited off-axis viewing angle ; Glossy “Ultra Clear Panel” reflects ambient light and causes glare ; Intermittent dropped frames when displaying 1080p/24 video...

Armed with a superior LED backlighting system (which results in less flaring and virtually no black level fluctuation), [100Hz Motion Plus] MCFI technology (which reduces motion blur), and a colour management system however rudimentary, the Samsung...

Samsung Series 9 (LA46A950)

If there's one question we're sick of hearing as technology journalists it's whether plasma or LCD TVs are better. Usually you give a spiel about LCDs...

Incredible blacks comparable to the best plasmas, fantastic colours, sharp image, handles motion well, lots of bonus features

Minor aliasing on text, a little detail lost in some dark areas

Samsung's Series 9 LA46A950 is the best LCD TV on the market. While not perfect, its flaws are negligible and it offers an incredible combination of deep blacks, rich colours, sharp images and great motion, along with a host of bonus features, making...

LN55A950

The Samsung LN55A950 is the first LCD TV we've tested with LED backlighting. But LED backlighting doesn't come cheap. The LN55A950's $4500 street price (as of April 16, 2009) puts it in a different league from the other TVs that PC World normally...

Ethernet connection for Web services Fantastic remote control; great sound

Very expensive. Picture-in-picture doesn't work well

The menus are attractive and readable, though they do take up a lot of screen real estate. The main menu includes useful explanations. Navigation is normally easy but occasionally confusing. A smaller Quick Menu offers immediate access to commonly...
