Samsung UE42F5000

A top-notch 42-inch TV for less than £400. Bargain.

Incredible value ; Good all-round picture quality ; Impressively adaptable to different viewing environments

No online functionality ; No 3D (if you see that as a problem!) ; Rather lightweight build quality

For serious HD movie viewing you need to slash the backlight down to as low as 7 or 8 to get the best balance between black level depth and shadow detail; nudge the contrast down to around 82; and turn off all the noise reduction systems to make sure...

Samsung UE42F5000 review

This low-priced 42-inch TV is let down by poor performance

Freeview HD interface ; USB digital file support ; Low price

Endemic motion blur ; Poor contrast ; Soft images ; Two HDMI slots

An excellent Freeview HD user interface and great handling of digital files from a USB stick are the highlights, though the provision of just two HDMI slots and a single USB convince us that the UE42F5000 isn't the great-value cheap TV it could have been.

Samsung UN22F5000AF

The Samsung UNF5000AF series of HDTVs deliver good image quality at a reasonable price but you don't get much in the way features.

Despite its low price, the Samsung UNF5000AF series offers up a quality picture with a high contrast ratio and good viewing angles. It eschews all the bells and whistles that you get with more expensive sets like the Samsung UN46F8000BF and the LG...

Samsung UE42F5000 (F5000) TV Review

Mark catches a rare glimpse of Samsung's mid to low tiered F5000 3D LED TV. Anyone would think that it's becoming end of line and they have...

Solid blacks & contrast performance ; Very accurate colours ; Impressive video processing ; Relatively good dark screen uniformity ; Attractive pricing

Only 2 HDMI inputs!! ; Some panel banding on panning shots ; Lacks real Smart features ; Design is bland

The Samsung 42F5000 delivered exactly what we expected both in terms of design and performance. Its plain black looks certainly don’t rival those of Samsung’s 6 Series, or above, but the slimline bezel and chassis would surely be inoffensive to most....

The Samsung UNF5000AF series of HDTVs deliver good image quality at a reasonable price but you don't get much in the way features.

Good contrast ratio. Energy-efficient. Reasonably priced.

Only two HDMI ports. No networking capabilities. No Web apps.

Conclusion Despite its low price, the Samsung UNF5000AF series offers up a quality picture with a high contrast ratio and good viewing angles. It eschews all the bells and whistles that you get with more expensive sets like the Samsung UN46F8000BF and...

Samsung UN40F5000AF

TVs like Samsung's UNF5000 and UNF5500 series are the reason behind its increasing irrelevance. The major difference between the two is that the F5500 has Samsung's Smart TV suite, and the F5000 does not. Currently, the price differences between the...

The affordable Samsung UNF5000 LED LCD TV provides solid picture quality with relatively deep black levels and accurate color. Uniform screen; eye-catching design with thin cabinet; decent sound quality.

Just two HDMI inputs; evinced the video processing of a 60Hz TV despite "120 CMR" specification; middling remote and stand.

Beyond its "dumb" feature set and lack of inputs, the Samsung UNF5000 LED LCD offers plenty of TV for the money.

Samsung UNF5000: Looking good for a dumb TV

The UNF5000 is one of Samsung's few TVs to lack Smart TV features, but if you don't mind that, it represents a solid value.
