Philips 55PUT6400

The 55PUT6400 is the first TV we've tested from Philips' 2015 range – and as introductions to new ranges go, it makes quite a statement. Despite squeezing a 4K UHD pixel count into its 55-inch screen, and sporting Google's latest Android TV system, the...

Good 4K picture quality ; Extremely aggressive price ; Even upscaled pictures look sharp

Setup requires care ; Pictures look a touch "forced" with non-4K material ; Smart features are hit and miss

Philips 55PUT6400 review

Trim and trendy TV let down by a lack of detail in the picture

Reasonable detail in foreground ; Fine tracking motion ; Decent sound ; A good choice of apps

Lacks subtle detail ; Little movement in contrast settings ; Slow to change channels and enter TV guide

Though equipped with all you’d expect from a modern 4K TV set, Philips has failed to hit the spot with the 55PUT6400

Philips 55PUT6400 review

4K gets affordable with this £749 55-inch TV

Native 4K sources look good ; Good price for a large 4K TV ; Decent upscaling ; Attractive design

Processing can be clumsy ; Needs extensive setup work ; No 3D or Ambilight ; Overbearing Android TV interface

The 55PUT6400 is a striking debut for Philips' new TV range. It catches the eye with its price and size for a 4K UHD TV, and in many ways its pictures grab your attention too. In the end though a few foibles with the TV's video processing make us think...

Philips 55PUT6400 review

Two things the 55PUT6400's aggressive price doesn't get you, though, are 3D playback and Philips' Ambilight technology. There are no coloured light pools spilling out from its edges. While this is a shame, at least the set's edges are attractive anyway...

Excellent value; mostly good picture quality, especially with native 4K content

Pictures can look a over-processed artificial; Android TV system is cumbersome

Overall, while the 55PUT6400 is a talented 55in TV for its money, no matter how much I tinkered with its pictures I still sometimes found them a bit artificial-looking – as if Philips’ processing either isn’t powerful enough to realise its ambitions or...

Philips 40PUT6400 review

At under £500 the Philips 40PUT6400 offers 4K and Android TV but no Ambilight.

Overall, this 6 Series Philips 6 Series set is solid value. It’s a good advert for Android, and image quality is great. Despite the relatively small screen size, there are benefits to having 4K resolution on a 40-inch panel – but you really do need to...

Philips 50PUT6400 Ultra HD 4K LED TV Review

Philips 50PUT6400 Ultra HD 4K TV finally arrives with a decent set of features and a very attractive price but does it do enough to distinguish itself...

Decent native blacks ; Great backlight uniformity ; Good out-of-the-box performance ; Impressive upscaling ; Attractive price

Limited future-proofing ; CMS doesn't work ; Android TV still has issues

If you're on a budget or just fancy testing the Ultra HD 4K waters without committing too much money, then the Philips 50PUT6400 is definitely a good choice. It provides enough features and specifications to keep it relevant in a fast-changing world,...
