Dell W4200 HD Plasma TV

Solid image quality (both measured and perceived). Good on-screen display controls. Dual built-in tuners (NTSC and ATSC). Very competitive price

Needs some color/brightness/contrast adjustments out of the box, since default settings look a bit washed out

It's tough to beat this deal. The 42-inch Dell W4200 HD Plasma TV delivers very good image quality at a very competitive price.

Dell W4200HD

The slick design and low price are appealing, but this plasma TV doesn't stand up to the big dogs on image quality.

The W4200HD's stellar industrial design is not matched with commensurate performance.

Dell W4200HD - 42 plasma TV

Relatively inexpensive; numerous inputs; includes stand and speakers; clean high-def images; versatile PIP and aspect controls.

Darker images tend toward green; inaccurate color decoding.

Despite a couple of flaws with darker images, this high-res plasma remains an outstanding bargain.

The plasma TV market is not much different than other consumer electronics fields-you generally get what you pay for. While these three budget sets can look pretty darn good, they also have shortcomings that nitpickers like me have a field day...
