Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition

This Android tablet may be smaller than most but it's also better.

Well built and stylish ; Smaller form factor is lighter and easy to hold ; Good screen and performance ; Useful extra features ; Android still lacks apps

Display suffers from backlight bleed ; No expandable memory or 3G

Perhaps what's most annoying is the plastic flap that would otherwise cover where these cards go is still there – lift it aside and you're met with cold hard nothingness. It's actually annoyingly sloppy to be frank.

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition review

The Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition is the Xoom's smaller sibling

Zippy 1.2GHz dual-core CPU ; Well constructed form factor ; Stunning 8.2-inch display

Large bezel ; Slow screen rotating ; Temperamental headphone jack

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition review

Can a smaller, lighter Xoom stand out in the tablet world?

Great design ; Excellent screen ; Some nice media features ; Good processor ; Decent price

Low battery life ; Fiddly on-screen keyboard ; MotoCast not ready yet, and no microSD slot ; Irritating Lock key placement ; Smudgy screen

The best-selling tablet on the market might be the 9.7-inch iPad 2, but that hasn't stopped manufacturers differentiating themselves using by going with a smaller screen size than Apple's offering. We've seen the likes of the original Samsung Galaxy...

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition

Many, including Motorola, followed the iPad's about-10-inch route with the launch of their first tablet, but there's a lot to be said for a more compact format as seen here with the 8.2-inch Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition. There is a lot to like about...

Size, power, design, screen, IR transmitter is actually useful

Lower battery capacity, occasional Wi-Fi woes, no microSD slot

There is a lot to like about the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition. Where we weren't sure that the larger Xoom 2 offered quite enough, there is something more exciting about the smaller version. The size means it is light and portable, but also it's easy...

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition Review: In Depth

After reviewing the Motorola XOOM 2, we were left with mixed feelings and not much hope for the XOOMs of 2011. We also have to...

Solid build quality ; Sharp 8.2-inch display ; Fantastic camera ; Snappy performance

Mediocre video recording ; Non-expandable ; Pre-loaded bloatware ; Incongruous flap at the bottom of the tablet

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition Review

The Motorola Xoom 2 really does justice to its ‘Media Edition' tag, offering the ability to stream films and music from your home PC or the net

The dual-core processor manages all the apps well, and that 8.2inch display offers vibrancy and brightness.

Onboard apps are disappointing; volume and power keys are fiddly to use.

This neater version of the Motorola Xoom 2 is actually our preferred model – it’s comfortable to hold and the display really impresses. It performs well and thanks to the fact that it can stream films and music from the web or a PC it certainly lives...

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition review

Hot on the heels of its revamped Xoom 2 tablet, Motorolahopes to cover all bases with this chopped down version. Questionis: what's the difference, and what's the point?

As big as a tablet can get and still fit in your pocket, 1.2GHzdual-core processor, excellent screen

Relatively poor battery life

If you need the bigger screen, the Motorola Xoom 2 is a fine tablet. But if you want the same fastprocessor, with a sharper screen, at lower cost, in a (just about)pocketable case, then the Xoom 2 Media Edition is the one foryou.

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition review

Android tablets have not really taken off in the business sector, with many employees and IT admins prefering the iPad. However, this has not stopped the influx of tablets running the Google-owned operating system to the market.

Portable, good screen, HDMI output, Motocast can come in handy

Not shipped with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, poor battery life, no 3G or microSD card support

A portable Android Honeycomb 3.2 tablet from Motorola that offers reasonable performance. We prefer this device to the larger 10in Xoom 2, but it is still not quite good enough to tempt us away from the iPad 2.
