Update: Five months on and Apple's first 7-inch tablet is still leading the way.
Stunning brushed metal design ; Strong battery life ; Simply, intuitive UI
Low-res screen ; More expensive than competition ; No boxed headphones or dock adaptor
Also, as visually appealing as the slim, brushed metal, flat backed design is, it does have a slight cost in terms of practicality. With little area to gain a finger hold, it can prove irritatingly difficult to pick the iPad mini up off of a hard flat...

The original iPad mini is still good, apart from that screen
Superb design ; Great battery ; Extremely light and portable
Smaller touch targets ; Higher price than competition ; Low-res screen
The iPad mini ushered in a major change for Apple and aside from the slightly disappointing screen we loved this tablet. It's now been usurped by the iPad mini 2 with Retina display, so it's really only there for those on a budget.

Can the premium-priced Apple iPad Mini take the tiny tablet crown?
4:3 screen ratio ; Battery Life ; Weight
Lower res screen than rivals ; Price ; No headphones included

You have to pay a premium, but the iPad Mini feels and performs as it should
Beautiful build quality ; Fantastic feel ; Great screen ; Great with video ; Entertaining with music ; Easy to use
Pricey ; No expandable memory ; Cable and cover accessories all add up

Is it a small iPad or a big iPhone or is the iPad mini a device that forges a whole new market for Apple? They're legitimate questions, but the truth is, it's all of the above. The iPad mini is the new iPad to lust after. It's a lot more manageable. It...
More portable, still a big screen, light, great for gaming, less chunky
Screen resolution, 4G won't work on Vodafone or O2, old processor
The iPad mini is the new iPad to lust after. It's a lot more manageable. It a lot more kid-friendly, it's a lot more game-friendly. It is a lot more "you" friendly.

It costs a lot, but if you want a compact yet powerful tablet then nothing beats the iPad mini

Sony has revealed that the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will be launching this autumn with a price tag of £329 inc VAT. The iPad Mini with Retina Display is, of course, widely available in the UK, ranging upwards in price from £399 inc VAT. It's worth...
Considering that it is last year's product, the iPad mini with Retina Display is hanging in there. We prefer the Sony, principally because it is more powerful, thinner and lighter, has a better camera and - glory be - it's cheaper. But the iPad mini...

Smaller than an iPad, but quite a bit bigger than an iPod touch, the iPad mini is a tablet that will fit in your handbag, but lets you do pretty much everything the 9.7-inch iPad can do.
The iPad mini is a premium small tablet, with a price to match. It's a shame Apple couldn't have included a Retina screen and newer processor - expect the iPad mini 2 to get those updates when it launches later this year. This Wi-Fi only model also...

The iPad Mini is the fifth generation iPad and the first to deviate from the 9.7-inch screen size, with it's 7-inch screen. The 7-inch tablet...
Intuitive UI suitable for first tablets
No Retina display

Can Apple's not-quite-8-incher take the fight to Google's cheaper Nexus 7 offering? We find out in our review of the tiniest iPad yet.
Like the iPad, but easier to handle ; Beautifully built ; Battery life is impressive
No Retina Display means a lack of detail ; Expensive compared to the Nexus 7
Small and light enough to take everywhere but big and clever enough to be considered a full-blooded tablet, the iPad Mini provides a near-perfect balance – for a price
