Apple's iPad 3 is amazing but not perfect – find out why in our full, in-depth review.
Amazing, stunning screen ; Powerful graphics ; Good battery life ; Excellent build quality ; Good value
Poor connectivity ; Annoying artificial limitations ; Need iTunes to get content on it ; No expandable memory ; Thicker and heavier than most premium tablets
Though iCloud at least partially compensates for this limitation on the media end, we don’t find it very acceptable on a modern media consumption and productivity device, and it’s definitely a good reason to prefer an Android tablet.

Sharper screen, faster innards - but is it worth the update?
Superb screen ; Slick gaming ; Simple interface
Can overheat ; Apps take up too much space ; No expandable storage ; Thicker than iPad 2
The iPad is dead, long live the iPad... although only an incremental upgrade, the new iPad 4 has been released to usurp this model.

New iPad 3 Review: A higher-def screen and a slicker look. Does the iPad 3 mark a point at which resistance to Apple's market-leading tablet becomes futile?
Stunning screen ; Best app and AV stores ; Superb interface
Not a huge leap from iPad 2 ; Camera still awkward to use

Best tablet £300+, Awards 2012. It might not look very different, but the new iPad is undeniably better than the iPad 2, and that makes it the best
Truly stunning screen ; exceptionally user-friendly ; excellent audio ; unbeatable selection of apps, movies and music ; flawless build quality
A touch heavier and thicker than iPad 2 ; charging takes ages ; more internal storage would be nice

The latest head-turner in the Apple stable, we found the iPad a versatile and accomplished performer that's a joy to use
Beautifully made ; big screen ; sound is good through speakers and excellent via headphones
Speakers are too quiet ; attracts fingerprints ; still no Flash support

It might not look very different, but the new iPad is undeniably better than the iPad 2, and that makes it the best tablet by a mile
Truly stunning screen; exceptionally user-friendly; excellent audio; unbeatable selection of apps, movies and music; flawless build quality
A touch heavier and thicker than iPad 2; charging takes ages; more internal storage would be nice

This year, it's all about the screen. The third-generation iPad has lots of other improvements but it's the brilliance of the display which leaps out at you as soon as you wake the screen. Look, you either want an iPad or you don't. There's no pressure...
Screen, HSPA+, faster processor, largest number of tablet specific apps
No weight reduction over previous model, no increase in battery life, high resolution apps take up more storage space
Look, you either want an iPad or you don’t. There’s no pressure to buy one. But the Retina Display makes this so far and away the best release yet, this is a great time to climb on board the iPad train. It certainly gets more right than wrong.

It's not exciting, but the basic iPad is versatile.
Better A13 processor ; More storage (64/256GB) ; Center Stage camera zooms in video chats ; Works with older keyboard cases ; Headphone jack
Older design ; No USB-C ; Uses first-gen Pencil

The new name is noteworthy. Just as Apple pulled the rug from below the feet of tech journals with the 'iPhone 5 launch' last autumn – which materialised as the iPhone 4S – so the much heralded ‘iPad 3' was unveiled with an unexpected name: the iPad.
Extra horsepower from the revised quad-core graphics processor has been funnelled into maintaining the iPad 2’s top-notch graphics performance when tasked with driving four times as many pixels. An improved rear camera is not universally essential, and...
