Amazon's new Kindle Scribe looks to fix some of the biggest complaints with the original, but there's still work to be done in the hardware department.

The Scribe is a well-made curio once again
Large display, Easy to take notes, Design refinements are welcome
Too big for everyday reading, User interface can be fiddly
The Kindle Scibe's updated design is a welcome change, while its hardware remains impressively well-made. If you like to take notes while you read, and you want to do so all on one device, it's made for you. For most people, though, I'm not convinced...

Reading and writing come together nicely with the Amazon Kindle Scribe 2024. Is it worth the money? Find out in my full review.
Metallic Jade color is beautiful ; Plenty of space with 10.2-inch display ; Lightweight and portable ; Easily read and write together ; Pen is very responsive with no latency ; Useful AI tools
Limitations for note-writing in books ; Monochrome display

With a big screen, included stylus, and long battery life, the Kobo Elipsa 2E seemingly has everything it needs to become the king of the e-notebooks.
Bright and clear display In-book annotations Big list of supported files Google Drive and Dropbox integration Weeks of battery life
Stylus needs separate charging Sluggish performance in areas Dodgy exporting
“The Kobo Elipsa 2E isn't a gadget you absolutely need, but it's a lovely e-reader that I think you'll love.”

The Scribe remains a great digital notebook for Kindle loyalists, even if not much has changed over the original.
Thin and lightweight. Large display for writing and reading. You can now write directly within a book. New generative AI features are minor but useful. Includes Premium Pen.
Still not waterproof. No color features. Active Canvas is unintuitive.
